This weekend was Memorial day weekend. It was also was mother's bday and we had a cookout. We all went up to my dad's grave sight, so things were kind of emotional. Then something horrible happened. My mom lives in the country and they decided to burn a pile of brush. It burned for a while and then we heard meows. Turns out that the mother cat had put her babies under the pile that week. One got out alright. We hosed off the space where we thought the others might be. Once I seen another kitty, I took my step dad's shirt and grabbed the cat. It seemed to be burned a little but had breathed in a whole bunch of smoke. It seemed to be in a lot of pain. Everybody was so upset and we decided to put it out of misery rather than to see it suffer. Now me and my husband can't stop thinking about it. Maybe it could have lived, maybe it wasn't in as much pain as we thought. I feel so horrible about this. There was also one more kitten that we never found. I wish I could have known what the right thing to do was. I wish we had never had a fire.
