Sooo yeah, up date.....where to begin?
Well, not much has really changed in the last year, except my job and my social activity. Both of these things are related, I can assure you.
First the job.
I am currently working as a Night Time Security Guard at a government subsidized apartment complex. It is not a difficult job to say the least. In fact as the nights get colder and colder, it is getting more and more boring. Let's just say I am starting to get to read alot...and I mean ALOT.
Now, it wasn't always so boring. In the summer, the nights were much busier. People would sit out on their porches drinking. Kids would be out running around past the enforced curfew so my partner and I would have to chase them down and write them up. Then every once in a while you would get a scene like something out of an episode of "Cops". Two neighbors/spouses/brothers/etc etc etc, would be outside yelling at each other in barely deciferable english at 3am. This is when you get to walk up to them holding your 4cell maglite like it is a rodney king special and tell them in your best "intimidating bouncer voice" to get the fuck back in their apartments and to deal with this in the morning like adults. It is amazing how even drunk people will listen too you when you are weilding 2 feet of black steel like you mean to beat them on the head if they don't comply.
Boring winters and not so boring summers aside, my work hours are 9pm to 5am , Friday thru Monday.
There it is.
The kicker.
Decent pay, great medical, dental and eyecare, paid vacation, seperate sick days, and a work scheduel that absolutely kills any form of going out to the clubs I could desire.
The good industrial/goth/synthpop club nights in the Detroit/AnnArbor area are Friday, Saturday and Monday. There are the occasional mediocere wednesday nights, but that involves 3 different bars on opposite sides of town, therefore the crowd is spread thin amongst the three bars making the nights lukewarm at best. I used to enjoy tuesday nights at Luna in RoyalOak for video appreciation night, but the crowd has changed siginificantly. Unless they are showing a band I really really like (NIN, Manson, the Smiths, the Cure, Billy Idol, you know, the good stuff) I really don't feel like driving the distance to hang out.
See, I told you my social activity was related to my job. That's what you get for not trusting in your Frank.
Now on the one hand, not going out that often is not neccessarily a bad thing.
I am saving a lot of money by not going out 3-5days a week. I am no longer looking in my bank account hoping to whatever powers exist in this grand cosmic debacle that my check hits before my bills are withdrawn. I now have a little more padding in the account. I hear not running a 20-60dollar a night bar tab will do that for you.
Not going out also affords me oodles of time to play the cultural phenomenom known as World of Warcraft. That's right kids, for less then the price of a movie ticket, soda and popcorn, you can get a full MONTHS worth of entertainment. Intense Combat, Sweeping Adventure, and Internet Social Drama, all in one easy to use package. This stuff is more addicting then black tar heroin. I love it. I have soo much fun playing it. I am also eagerly awaiting the expansion due out this January.
On the other hand, not going out is not neccessarily a good thing.
Normally Necto's "The Factory" is the monday night hang out for people in "the scene". Apparently mondays are their busiest night, barring the weekend crowds so they decided to let "The Factory" dj's run the show this wednesday beforeTthanksgiving. Amazingly enough, not having to work on wednesday, I decided to go out once I heard what was happening at Necto. So, I get there, I see people I haven't seen in forever. I danced anytime something even halfway decent comes on (needless to say I danced alot). It was amazing. Then I run into the SG crew and I realize how much I miss seeing Mike and Robin and Ben and Mark and everyone else. Then I start to realize that I need those nights. I need to go out and be a social butterfly, drinking, dancing, fawning over people and being fawned over in return. These things are good for my well being and you can only do them for so long till you are too geriatric to be seen at the club (the age limit being a very debatable subject from many different points of view but you get my point, life is short).
As much as I like my job, if I can't somehow arrange to at least get one weekend night off a month to go out and club, I am probably going to have to find a new job this summer. Ah well......
Man, I look back and realize that is a lot of typing. I don't even know if I would read that whole thing if I were you. I would probably skim it for points of interest and move on. But then again I can be shallow like that. Besides, I have been gone for almost a year from the site and that at least probably justifies the wall of text here at least a little bit, right?
Either way, it's good to be back.![smile](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/smile.0d0a8d99a741.gif)
I will be stalking you all soon.
Be forwarned.
