Jaws. My Favorite movie of all time is Jaws. i saw it for the first time when i was 5 years old and it scared the shit out of me so baddly that i had to turn it off halfway through and finish it in the morning. i watch it when its raining, when im sick, or when im just bored. i have 3 posters of Jaws in my house and I've read the book so many time that it fell apart. i also own it on VHS, two DVDs and a blu-ray.
The single scariest moment for me, that still gets me every time is when Quint dies. that level of brutal death, a man who survived the USS Indianapolis and hunted game fish and sharks, slowly sliding down the deck of his sinking boat that is being torn apart ( SYMBOLISM!!!!) into the awaiting jaws of the shark. every time i see it all i can imagine is that is the worst way to die, to slowly slide in feet first, struggling helplessly, and then just getting ripped apart like a rag doll. worst movie death ever.
The writing however is amazing, from the one line quips, to the speeches given an the level of acting caliber which gives the film its gravity. the direction and choice to put the camera on water level during the beach scenes, the music. the slow steady build up of the primordial thumping, like the continuous drive of instinctual destruction is still the best piece of music written for a movie. I love it.
