Today was one of those cool days spent with the boys that hopefully they will remember fondly when they are old geezers and that I will definitely treasure forever. My wife and I want them to understand where we spend all our time supposedly working and so we have taken them to work with us. For my wife it is much easier as she is a kindergarten teacher at the school where both boys go and so they easily understand what Mommy does. What Daddy does is much harder to understand. They have both hung out in my office on the weekends and in the evenings but today was the first time they actually went to work with me. We rode the train, wore our good clothes, and even went out to lunch. Of course it helps that I am the boss and that today was a real light day as most of the staff had the day off due to the 4th of July weekend. On the train we called home just to tell Mommy how great the ride was and it was so thrilling to discover that we could use the laptop on the train. However they thought it stupid that anyone would want to do work on the train when you could play games on laptop instead. We had to turn it off though as we got a little too loud for some of our fellow commuters. After too many questions and too many detours to look at this building or this distraction we finally made it to the office a few minutes late. We rushed in the door and tried to sneak past the receptionist but she caught us as we slipped into my office. Some giggling boys gave us away. After reminding me that we opened at 8 and not 8:05 she took the boys for a few minutes while I returned several phone calls. I went out to find my little angels and discovered them at the copier being employed by my secretary. Besides my wife this is the most important woman in my life. Truth be told she runs the office and I work for her. She had them making copies of some paperwork and they were happy to make copies. I do not know what it is but they can stand for hours and make copies and find it so cool. I had some paperwork to draft and so the boys came in to watch me do some really boring stuff. I let my oldest use my office computer to paint while my youngest pounded out letters on my old typewriter. I set across from them and worked on my laptop while just watching them work. It was both cute and funny. I had to really concentrate to get my work done. At 10 we had to take a coffee/recess break. We went down the block to the deli for bagels and juice. We ate outside and enjoyed the smell of the city and the pigeons flying about. We took the long way back to the office and made it back in time to be reminded again that breaks are only 20 minutes long. I told the receptionist that there were three of us and we each took 20 minutes and that happened to equal 60 minutes. I put the boys in the conference center with some crayons and coloring books while I attended to some other work. A client came in and so I spoke with her out of their presence. After she left they wondered who the sad lady was and I told them that she was one of the people that I help. They said that they hoped I helped her and made her happier. I told them that I was doing my best and we would just have to wait and see. We had some papers to file and so I took them with me to the courthouse and they were excited to go through the security screening. They thought we were at the airport and were going to take a trip somewhere. When I told them that we were only filing papers they thought it was quite boring. I tried to explain that paperwork was a big part of my job, just like they had homework. They did not think much of my job after that. We went back to the office and at 1 we closed and everyone headed home. We caught a train that was fairly empty and called Mommy to tell her about our great day. My secretary surprised them by picking us up sandwiches for the ride home. They thought it was awesome eating lunch on a train. We got home and they told Mommy all about their great day and then changed and went outside to play. I must have done something right as they actually fell asleep soon after dinner. The wife and I actually had quiet time on a Friday evening for the first time in a long time. All in all a great day.

Thanks--it was a great day. The boys were up early this morning and decided they like playing to working. I told them I felt the same way!
