Greetings
Firstly, here is a little something from The Velvet Underground
And here is a little something more
Meanwhile, Autumn is upon us and that means one thing mushroom season!!!
I have just spent the weekend mushroom hunting with family. Alas we found the woods surprisingly bare but I did manage to spot a handful of fungi. Here are some examples of this weekends finds
The Common Yellow Russula
The Charcoal Burner
The Honey Fungus
The Common Puffball
The Bonnet Mycena
The Giant Polypore
The Sulphur Tuft
Polyporus varius
Of course, the question is, did I eat any of them? Many of the species listed above are not edible and some, although edible, appeared to have already been half eaten by slugs. Russulas are often edible (with some poisonous exceptions) but, as a rule, by the time you find them, hordes of hungry invertebrates will have found them first thus rendering them somewhat unappetising. However, I did indulge in some fried Honey Fungus. Yum!
Meanwhile, anyone who has found this remotely interesting should check out the Famous Mushroom Playing Cards!.
