I went Samba dancing on Saturday...
...and I have to say, I love it! I love the music, the beats, the people (Brazilians are the BEST!), the dance moves, the energy!!
I danced for 3 hours non-stop. I didn't think I knew anything about Samba, but it actually came pretty naturally (not the fast paced 'samba step' though, which involves quickly sort of hopping back and forth with 2 hip bumps and tapping the foot in front). Lots of me turning in a circle with single hip circles ( a belly dance move I've had mastered for YEARS). Yeah, so I tried to look cool... the teacher assumed I knew what I was doing, and tried to couples dance with me -- and I guess the terrified look on my face made him Sloooooooow down, so I could actually keep up for a few beats.
Samba is the type of dance you'd see in Rio... or at Carnivale (where the gals are wearin sequined bra and belts, a headdress and no more (it must be all the dancing that gets them in that shape)). I'm addicted. Going again next month.
For those St. Louis peoples -- It's Samba Bom, performing at Les Belas Artes on Russell.

Maybe you are the new Girl from Ipanema?
Samba is fun. And this is from a bad dancer.
