I finally finished the painting of Bow that I've been working on for so long! I had a lot of trouble with it, technically and in a procrastinational sense (that's totally not a word, but it works). I really loved Bow's new set but I really struggled with trying to paint it.

Painting grass is WAY harder than I thought it would be. So, this was a good painting to work on, in the grand scheme of things. It let me practice some more environment painting that I suck at.

I tried some new brushes on this painting, trying to cut down on the time it takes for me to complete a painting. I ended up using a lot of the techniques I would normally use but I incorporated some new ones as well as some new brushes. I played with the digital watercolor and the regular watercolor brushes as well as the acrylic brushes. My usual technique is to lay down the sketch, then add a layer and do an underpainting, or a sort of rough painting to block out color.

I've always been the kind of artist that has to just put stuff down and push it around. I have a hard time jumping right into rendering. I always have to block everything out first. My mind works in layers! I'm a complex dude, apparently. Haha.

Anyways, enough of the jibba jabba. PAINTING AWAY!

Rough Sketch - I ended up cropping the image for better composition.

I saved this image at the wrong point. surreal I started rendering out the eye in this one, but it was supposed to be just the underpainting.

More of the face rendered.

Blocking in some of her tatoo, some more additions to the face.

Played more with colors, more tatoo completed. Um, awkward anatomy? I'm trying to use my x-ray vision to see through blades of grass in a photograph. It was rough.

Hey, there is the final image. Including my attempt at blurry grass! Seriously, I suck at environments! frown Ah well, I need to keep practicing.

I hope everyone likes it. biggrin

Well actually nobody in Pittsburgh really cares much for the Pirates either so I'm okay there. tongue

How I became a Yankees fan was growing up in Ohio actually....I used to go to a ton of Columbus Clippers games and they were the Yankees triple-A team back then and I got to see all of the Yankees play at least a few games while in Columbus. It was just cool meeting guys like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera or whoever and then a few weeks later they'd be on TV playing for the Yanks. Made me a fan for life. I've been rooting for them since I was like 11 or 12 years old and they are by far my biggest sports obsession (outside of MMA of course)
