"Deep Water" is on television keeping me company, a movie I've avoided watching because it's been reviewed as so intense. I love the ocean and the undeniable feeling of connection to all life I feel while immersed in her salty imbrace, but there is very deliberate selective memory on my part.
If I allow myself to contemplate, real or imagined, that mysterious underwater nudge, a sharp poke from the ocean floor, or the splash and ripple in my peripheral vision, imagination and caution would combine to deny me all pleasure as I share the waves with the creatures I prefer not to think about: sharks, jellyfish, crabs and all things sinous, poisonous and hungry.
