I'm a 20 year old columbia sophomore. I was drawn to SG originally in high school when I was a geek with no friends and thought maybe it would be fun to be sexy for a change, in an environment which appreciated my geekiness and my crazy fashion sense instead of scorning me for it. I wasn't used to being viewed as sexy, only as weird, and I thought it would make me happy to interact with other likeminded people.
2. Are you A Suicide Girl? yes...first my set goes up in a few weeks!
A. If not, do you aspire to be one?

Originally, I decided to go to the party/open call for their (now defunct due to terry richardson's sleaziness) magazine, so I could write about it for the fed. They asked me to model and I did, and it was fun. I wrote a kickass article. After the magazine went under I decided to do the website. I submitted an initial application, consisting of a few pictures (non nude) and the answers to some questions, and they accepted that so I shot a photoset. They set me up with an official SG photographer and he was the coolest guy ever, really nice and non-creepy and artistic. He's my friend now and I write for his website (poppunk.net). They accepted that, so now I'm a "limbogirl"...I get paid $300 right away but my set hasn't gone up yet. When it does I'll be a full fledged SG. I'm pretty happy with SG overall, I've met some awesome chicks through it, many of whom were "ugly ducklings" like myself! The members are chill too...I go to the SGNY parties and hang out with them and for the first time I'm not too shy to approach people and say hi. (I'm pretty shy). I'm still working on not being shy in non-SG situations...but my confidence has definitely improved now that I'm not afraid to show my sexy side! (and now that I believe I have one). It's sort of a big fuck you to everyone who shit on me in high school and told me I was worthless.
C. For both, why (do you/did you) want to be a Suicide Girl?
I know this is ironic, seeing as it's the internet, but I thought it would help me with social interaction. Making friends, talking to boys, etc, has never been my strong point. But miraculously is has followed through on this promise! It might even help me find a real live boyfriend...I know other people, both male and female, who have found signifigant others through the site.
3. Who do you think this site is geared towards? (Males? Females? Which more?) (How and why?)
Obviously 90% the site's draw is quality photography of sexy nude women, so statistically it's going to attract more men than women. However, there are many straight female, and even gay male, members as well, who appreciate the artistic aesthetics of the photography, as well as the awesome community aspect of it! Not to mention the fact it's a good place to meet guys who like alternative girls. It's mostly run by women, so the site is policed heavily to rid it of all misogyny...they are not afraid to remove members who don't fit in with the sex-positive community. This ain't no Vice Magazine!
4. How often do you use the site? Waay too much, I post on the groups every day and update my journal every few days. It's addictive!
A. Have you met people through it.? See above!
B. How is it differant than differant "profile webpages" The hot sexy nudes, of course. And the fact that it is primarily a forum for discussion, not merely a forum to post pictures of yourself and go "Look how many cool belts I have!!!" (cough cough, myspace.) You can post pics too, but no one will look at them if you're not an active member of the community...the boards and groups are how people find each other!
C. Has it effected your life (and how...positive or negative)? So far it's been really positive...I've made a bunch of awesome new friends, the first one being my photographer (www.steveneurotic.com). He's moving to nyc soon and we're gonna start a punk band together! I had no idea I'd have so much in common with these pornstars and porn-consumers! I expected them to all be really crazy and badass but most of them are gayass geekdweebs like myself...they read, they cook, they work, they go to school...the ones I've met are all just really nice, eccentric, genuine people.
D. What do you think is the best feature of the site?
The hot sexy women and the community. I really can't choose. It's like this awesome sorority for freaks! Mmm I'm shooting a 2 girl set soon and that will be fun...did I mention the chance to get PAID to make out with amazingly hot chicks? That's another good feature.
5. Do you feel this site objectifies women?
Obviously, anytime you sell pictures of nude women you are objectifying/commodifying them to some degree. But it really is in the eye of the beholder...some people just whack off to the pictures and then they're done (I try not to think about that), but a lot of people appreciate them more for their beauty and the quality of the photography rather than any prurient reason, and they read your journal and want to get to know you, and I think that can only be positive! It's changing the definition of pornography from a simple sign eliciting one response, to a more nuanced view/interaction with an entire human being.
A. If you are a SG, do you feel objectified/objectifying yourself? see above!
B. If not, why not and what makes this differant than other porn/porn sites?
6. Any other thoughts, feelings, comments you would like to make about SG?
Hopefully it will continue to be positive for me...so long as my dad and potential employers don't find out, I'm good to go! (I try not to think about that).
