While I have been looking at all the new sets here at SG, I decided to listen to Pandora and for some reason the Circle Jerks popped into my head. Damn! Was I glad that it did! It has been a while since I have listened to them. Still great after all these years.
"We all gotta get by , the best that we can,"
"We all gotta duck, when the shit hits the fan."
Well put. And it seems like more and more we have to do some ducking.
I had forgotten what fun it was to listen to bands like Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Charged G.B.H., The Exploited ect. and what a release it could be. You could get political, silly, or pissed off. Whatever you wanted. I remeber slamming in pit at a GBH concert and getting my scalp cut wide open and not even knowing it. Or the near riot when the Dead Kennedys decided to stop playing after about 20 minutes. Or the plain simple fun of SNFU.
Black Flag made me think. Henry Rollins made me listen. The Exploited made me drunk. What fun it was.
I know there are bands out there now that do the same thing, but, for me at least, not nearly as well. These were the pioneers. They went where no one else had gone yet and made us all think. Made us laugh. Made us question authority. Made us open up our eyes and our minds. I may have been young and dumb and full of cum, but I lived life. I didn't do what I was supposed to and followed my ears and they lead me along the musical highway to a whole way of life.
I may now be older. I may now work as an autority figure, but I can relate and understand what the youth of today think. The views may be different, but the idea is the same. Don't just listen and do what is told of you, Do what YOU have to do. Question why. Change things. Do it while you are young. It will shape who you will become. And I fully believe that if you live YOUR life when you are young, your adult life will be happy. It may be far different than what you expected, but you got there honestly.
"Your fucked up baby. Your fucked up baby"
Hell ya! Imortal words as sung by D.O.A.
