Been meaning to update for a few days, but I's been pretty busy and well..to be honest...I didn't think I had anything really spectaculor to update on compared to the whole hurricane aftermath and some of the other drama that's been going on.
But fuck it. To the update! *cue 70s action tv show music*
soooo. infinitelykaty and I left to go to San Antonio for the weekend later on Friday than I had originally intended. We were shopping for apartment stuff for me...I need trash cans so I can stop throwing trash in whatever random boxes get mailed to me.also Katy got a lime green squishy pillow...pictures to follow. but it was no problem. We got into the hotel room (my bestfriend/excoworker/awesomeperson) hooked us up with this HUGE suite for just the two of us. Made me wish we were gonna spend more time in the room.
So we go out to meet up with some of my friends. It was a birthday party/ good bye party for another friend who is getting deployed...or rather is now deployed to Iraq again.
I think Katy had a good time. My friend Jeremy is a total comic force unleashed upon the universe. He makes more funny and smokes more pot than the Cheech and his buddy Chong! good times.
Katy sampled the bubbly punch. Some sort of coconut rum concoction with fruity juices and dry ice in it. I dunno. I stuck to my whiskey and cola.
We didn't stay too late because we had to get up kinda early for the next day. I was (sorta) surprising Katy (she actually found out the night before but acted surprised all ove again just for my benefit) with a trip to...
SEA WORLD!!
ok. maybe not all that exciting to you guys, but I was stoked. I hadn't been in many a year and I thought she'd like it.
it has roller coasters and manimals and water rides and all kindsa stuff!!!
We saw sea lions and seals and cute otters and penguins. Katy got very close to touching a dolphin...
but they eluded her. still they were very close and playful rescued dolphins. we got splashed some.
we also went to the aquarium
and saw coral reef displays and sharks!
We rode the roller coaster at least 70 million (divided by ten million) times!!
and we went to the Anheusier Busch hospitality building (they own the Sea World parks) and were treated to "all you can stand" beer "samples" *wink wink* 12 oz samples? Brilliant! Luckily they had more than just Bud and Bud Light. I got some Zeigenbock.
Went to the birthday party later that night and Katy got to meet my cat, Noch. It was a Tiki Party. Noch was VERY into it.
The next day kinda bummed. We were supposed to go back to Sea World and I had reserved a spot for Katy in this interactive class thing where she'd get to swim with the Beluga whales...BUT when we woke on Sunday it was pouring rain and shooting lightning out of God's butt (you might call it the "sky"). So we didn't go. I felt bad. She didn't even get to see Shamu. instead we stayed late in bed. I went down to the breakfast and brought up waffles and sausage and stuff. otherwise we spent the morning.
We stopped by the humane society adoption center to look at kitties, but they were so busy with the rescues animals from New Orleans and elsewhere that they were closed until yesterday. We got to see the kitties through the window though.
been a busy work week since then. Worked 14 hour day yesterday in an attic that got up to 160 degrees. We actually were not allowed to spend more than a half hour at a time working in there at any one stretch. I soaked my shirt through and got more than a little bit heat sick despite drinking several gallons of water through the course of the day. and to top it off on the way home from work I got stuck at a red light that wouldn't turn because my motorcycle doesn't weigh enough to set off the sensor. so I waited until traffic was clear and made my turn...and got immediatly pulled over by a police officer who...while officiously polite...was still a jerk and cited me for running a red light. I'm gonna contest it. I was stuck in a left turn lane with a concrete island between me and the the other lanes. I was gonna have to pull out into the intersection no matter what I did.
in the good news department. MY CAMERA ARRIVED THIS WEEK!!!! two days ago. from Russia. In Russian packaging with cyrillic script all over it. I was bouncy happy.
So I now have my new(used) Zenit EM 35mm SLR camera.
it's going to be interesting. It was all these dials and settings and things to work with...
it even came with a wide angle lens too!
but with all these dials and settings and features and stuff....and the fact that it's been YEARS since I last held my Pentax that was eventually lost and haven't used a real SLR since...that I have NO idea...
what the hell I'm doing.
I know what the proper apeture/shutter speeds are mostly and such, but with this particular camera...I have no idea how to make all that work. mainly the shutter speed dial is confusing the hell out of me. and this little dial that supposedly gives me the proper whatnots per my film "speed" choice. at this point I've just gone out and bought some decent but not over the top film and am gonna play with the camera until I figure out what exactly is what. if anyone has any suggestions of pointers....much appreciated.
staying home from work today. I feel like crap after yesterday getting cooked and the girl is sick too...currently knocked out on Nyquil shots.
ps. right. the green squishy.
