it's raining pretty good outside and work is slow so they gave me the day off. it's all good. I got 50 hours in 4 days so today wasn't really necessery.
sitting here having some breakfast waiting for the rain to let up a little bit before I take off out on the motorcycle to run errands.
reading news. and just...fuck.
I don't even know what to think. these are the guys that relieved my battallion back in March. they've only got a couple more months over there and I just hope the rest make it back unharmed. I haven't made much attempt to keep up with what's going on over there...not even in my old Area of Operations..that place just sucks. I met a lot of those guys on my way out and they were good kids. They showed up a lot like we did...laughing, joking, a little nervous but ready (they thought) to do their part and then go back home.
no real warrior ever wants to go to war.
and here I'll go about my everyday day. just like anyone else did when I was over there. difference is I came back and noone had to mourn me.
and this thing with Reserve units is...if a bunch of us in a unit get hit...like when we had a bunch get wounded outside of Fallujah. it's not diffuse reaction. all these guys' families know each other. they are all from a particular area. it's concentrated into that town or state or whatnot.
anyhow.
my day's pretty normal. this rain makes me sleepy. and I look at the list of things I made for me to do this week and realize that I've been working so I haven't gotten any of it done. wanted to write letters and stuff this week, but just never found time. probably do that tonight over a nice strong whiskey and coke rather than go out and get rained on on 6th street.
I need to do some reading. I used to go through a book a week at least. it's probably been days since I even picked one up.
. I'm still missing my girl at retarded levels. I think of her as my girl now. not as in "mine" I own it. but just as in...if I have a girl that is THE girl...she's it.
it'll be good to have her here again...1 month.
maybe I'll take the camera with me running errands and get some rainy day Austin photos.
anyhow...y'all have a good weekend.
addendum: so I went and ran some errands.
this is how we roll to the grocery store:
actually I went and deposited paychecks and got some paperwork type stuff done.
but I had an awesomely sublimely cinematic moment on the motorcycle. it had just let up raining and I was on my way back home and getting onto the freeway from the frontage road...no traffic so I just swooped down the onramp. it was grass on both sides and I'm gliding down on my black bike in my black jacket and black helmet with the skulls all over it. there were a BUNCH of grackles sitting in the grass on either side of the ramp and as I rode by they jumped up and took wing off into the steel grey overcast sky. I saw a guy about a hundred yards away on a roadcrew grab his buddy's arm and point. and for a couple moments...I felt like a total badass.
then I remembered the first attempt at errand running when it waited until I was on the freeway to start POURING rain and my mesh jacket got soaked through and I was cold and miserable and did one thing and then rode back home for coffee and a hot sandwich.
all in all it's been a good day off.
was digging around trying to find my unit's address and found
this. about my unit. kinda a fluff piece and a couple inaccuracies...but...we're in the paper?

I think it's funny that Bush kills more Americans than the "terrorists" do...
I need work for the validation and a vacation for the sanity. Or maybe it's the other way around? Either way, I feel like it's a fucking slump.
