The drive from Florida back to Texas was..fun? We got a bit of a late start with cleaning out my friend's apartment and getting things loaded so we stopped in Gulfport, MS after about ten hours on the road. Got some food and a motel room and passed out. The drive wasn't too bad once we got going on the highway. The 22' truck and a trailer with a car on it was a little ungainly in the city streets.
Second day was more eventful, lots of rain through Louisiana and East Texas and then the most ridiculous detour I've ever seen. They took all the westbound traffic off of a major four lane highway and diverted it onto a single lane (each way) county road that looped 44 miles AROUND. There was no service road so I guess other than shutting the highway down to one lane there wasn't many options, but still. It took 2 hours to complete a detour that brought us back on to the highway a little more than ten miles away from where we exited it.
But we made it back laaaate last night after about 13 hours on the road. Tiiiiiiired. spent today being lazy as I could be.
might be heading back into work tomorrow or taking another day off. As it turns out, I've only got a week or so of A/C work left anyway. After that I am taking the rest of the month off. I'm back in the Marine Corps and it seems that I'll be heading back out. All I know for now is that I'll be leaving to start training and work-ups for deployment in October to head to Afghanistan. everything else won't be for certain until we're actually standing there...and even then...not so much.

You can thank me by coming back intact, man. And a road trip to Portland may just do you some good- I can pretty much guarantee you won't pay for a single damn drink.

You better give me your address when you get over there so I can send you care packages once I am done with MY deployment!!
