first off my grooveshark randomizer just went from Neil Young to Lady Sovereign. It really does know me.
Had a really good birthday weekend. Thank you for the birthday wishes.
Went out Friday with Melanie. We got dressed up fancy-like and headed down to a little Mediterranean restaurant that I've been wanting to try out. The food was great and the place itself was fun. It's right on the Riverwalk, but on the far edge of it where there is little tourist traffic. When we walked in they had a private party in that was playing hard core hip hop music for their gathering, which was odd, but perfectly suited us sitting out in the dining patio over looking the river with blaring "muthafucka'"s and such. hilarious. Occasional passing touristy barges with cheering people....and for a while we actually had the whole dining area to ourselves. I had an amazing chicken pesto crepe. and we had a crepe dessert too.
I checked out the bar next door that is in what used to be one of my favorite hotels in San Antonio. It was bought last year by another group and they made the once old-style very Hemingway basement bar into something a little more hip and busy. oh well. Spent the rest of the evening hanging out with friends who were in town by chance.
Saturday was fairly lazy. We went and saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Really liked it. It felt kinda clunky in places, plot wise but I can see why given that they were cramming a pretty good, detailed, murder mystery into a movie...and even at two and a half hours it never felt slow. It was a tough movie to watch at times though. The movie was made in Sweden and they didn't pull any punches with the scenes where Lisbet is abused. But Noomi Rapace did a great job in the movie and was just damn hot.
it was a bit odd in that I think Melanie and I were easily the youngest people in the audience. Most of the crowd was in their 60s or older. I get that some of them were in a book club that had read the book but even still...there were some shocked old ladies at the gratuitous sex.
anyhow. amazing movie. highly recommend it.
Saturday night ended up with some of the most amazing donuts ever. EVAR! There is a small airstream trailer that sells them out in some parking lot in South Austin (of course) My fresh made huge donut had banana slices, pecans, graham cracker, and caramel on it. Melanie's also had banana....
now it's back to normal week-life. after not a single hour last week I've two full days this week. hope this actually working trend continues. gots bills ta pay.
