Still any reason for cake and ice cream (or brownies and ice cream!) works for me. woohoo made it through another trip around the sun! wheeeeeeeee
Been a pretty good week. Been off of work pretty much the whole week...not by choice, it's just dead at work right now and if there isn't anything for me to do then I don't go in...and I don't get paid. But I've got some vacation time to cover me for now. It's been raining so much already this spring, but that's ok. It makes being out and about on the motorcycle kind of a pain, but everything is green and growing and that's pretty cool. And it's cool too I should add. Nary a 90 degree day so far.
Went up to Austin with Melanie and went down to the Green Belt to walk around. It's usually pretty with some flowing streams and shady places to sit. But right now it's so FULL of water and life (yay bugs!) and it's pretty damn amazing.
Pretty good year this last year. Work being possibly the only hiccup. Moved from Austin back down to San Antonio area. Wasn't sure about that, but living with my roommates has been a blast. My motorcycle got stolen, but I bought a new one that I like. Went and trained at 10,000 feet with the Marines, took on a bunch of new responsibilities...and then got out for a while at the end of last year. Going back in soon. Been seeing a girl up in Austin who doesn't think I'm a total idiot. Did A LOT of traveling, which always makes me very happy. Baltimore, DC, NYC, all over Greece, and Istanbul. Managed to keep up with a good number of good friends. Need to do better with that.
Already got an awesome gift from those great roommates. Story: For a long time I'd been using a cheap little ottoman thing from Ikea as a seat to sit at my computer desk. I liked that I could just move it over to my reading chair for its intended use and it didn't take up much room and was inexpensive. Well I did that thing where you go to sit down and you lose balance and sit down harder than you meant to. Broke the little pressboard top of the ottoman. This was right when work was slow (still is) and didn't want to buy a chair yet so I spent a couple months sitting on a cardboard box full of books I read years ago (old sci-fi and fantasy novels from TSR etc.) with the ottoman cushion on top. Kinda undignified, but whatever. Anyhow on the way home from the dentist yesterday I stopped at Target for sundries. They had a decent looking stool with a fake leather cushioned seat on it that matches some of my other stuff on sale so I thought "Topeka! just what I needed. I'll get myself this seat!" So I get home and put it together and realize that this is a bar stool and it's about a foot taller than what I need. It's taller than the top of the desk. Sigh. I are dumb. SO as I'm contemplating keeping or returning it and the hassle, my roommate knocks on my door with an early birthday present; a fully fuctioning office chair! like with comfy padding and armrests and A BACK TO IT! So I put that together. And, because I'm really still 14 despite what my profile says, I spent a good half hour with it half put together (no armrests or back) just spinning around and playing with the adjustable height while listening to music. But it's an awesome chair.
that's it. Have a good weekend everybody!
I should have been less vague in the announcement, I just thought it was amusing- we haven't had a debate about it . What sci-fi novel would you recommend?
