another long lunch break at home. good thing about living near the office. They seem to be splitting the work up into early in the morning and then late in the afternoon. Not many people want to be home from work during the day even if they need to have the furnace fixed. so it means I get these long pauses in the day to goof off and eat ramen noodles.
so what to do. I basically gathered up all of my gift cards from over the holidays and indulged in mass geekery and shopping spree.
started yesteday with a trip to Barnes and Noble's with Katy to get some books and coffee....after massive overeating at Chipotle. I think any trip to Chipotle implies overeating since their burritos are roughly the size of a football.
sooooo....lotsa books.
Comic book geekery:
bought a couple of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman Volumes.... Season of Mists and The Kindley Ones
also Neil Gaiman's Marvel 1602 book
aaaaaaaaand the Gunslinger Born graphic novel. I'm a little bit hesitant about this series. I hated the way the novels came to a close, but these cover a part of the storyline I really like....
modern fantasy fiction geekery:
got the first of the Dresden Files books, I've been told they are kinda junk food books, but fun so I figure I'd give it a look....whenever I actually get around to it...have lots of other books to read...including now also
I've already read the first two in this series and I picked up the third one over the holidays. Lukyanenko's books are really well done and very easily read. I really neeed to find them in the original Russian one of these days.
Poli Sci type geekery:
picked up the current issue of Foreign Affairs. Has some good articles on the global effects of the financial markets' collective failures and how American national security priorities jive with the established international law....good stuff.
Also picked up the Marine Corp's treatise on CI operations. Looks to be an interesting read.
Computer geekery:
bought another stick of 1gig of RAM for my computer. It won't help the processor run any faster, but it'll help with some of the lag in photo editing.
also bought s.t.a.l.k.e.r. video game, the first one. I'm playing the newer one and it is easily the hardest game I've ever tried to play. It's ridiculous.
here...this is yahtzee's take on it...and it's pretty spot on....
damn. no youtube for it...here's the link. should go look at it. it's funny. actually most of his reviews are hilarious....
if yer into video games that is...
ok....I R NERD.
OH! Almost forgot...the thing I'm most excited about getting...even more than all the books. I bought a
HOLGA! I've been wanting to mess with one for foooooorever...so now I have one. It means having to deal with film, but that's allright by me. actually I won't have to do more than purchase the film. I don't have a darkroom but there's a few places in town that are good about developing medium format film, so it should be good.
oh yeah....and me from the last weekend....when I forget to shave for about a week

I hope you're enjoying the Neil Gaiman books. How have things been otherwise?

Volkov's computer died. Hence the absence.
