Home again by 2 from work. And today is the first day I've worked all week! It's just damn slow at work. It's kind of surprising given that the temperature has stayed in the mid and upper 80's . I'll get some money for drill this last weekend, which was the Marine Corps Birthday Ball..more on that later, but I seriously can't afford to be ramping down to 20 hours a week.
It's not unusual to have 25-30 hour weeks all winter at my A/C job (makes sense even), but this is a bit early for that to set in. Especially with the really slow start we had to the summer season (rain!). I wouldn't be concerned about it so much, but I still have the trip to Puerto Rico next month and then Christmas and New Years to get through. Ah well...at least November has 5 paychecks in it.
About the Ball:
So. The Marine Corps Ball. went well. I managed to get minorly screwed. Last year I was the announcer/MC for the Ball. It mean that I stood at the podium most of the night, sitting down for abot forty minutes to eat dinner and then back up until the end. My date was extremely unimpressed.
Well...since I "did such a wonderful job last year" and because I was in Romania and therefor "not there to defend myself"...I was handed the same "honor" again this year (increasing sequential snark to the quotes).
After the rehearsal at the Hilton hotel for the ceremony everyone left to change and get ready for the Ball. I stayed back to help out with the seating arrangements...well apparantly there were some big F*$kups in the seating arrangements. And since I had no idea what was supposed to be going on with them it took long enough to where I didn't have time to go home and change into my uniform before the Ball. Luckily I had it with me at the hotel, so I just changed there. Katy didn't want to go again this year if I was announcing again, so I didn't have to worry about picking her up.
The Ball started a bit late, which actually helped get everything settled seating-wise. We got thorugh it and ended up having a pretty good evening. I would have liked to have been able to cut up a bit with my guys (espcially with this probably being my last Birthday Ball), but I had to be able to speak...not to mention pilot a motorcycle home afterward...so...enh.
so. Drill went allright. I'm STILL sore from that 3 mile run though. I just didn't even attemt to stay in running shape while on my trip to Europe.
soooooooooo. sitting at home checking out all the movie trailers on apple "like yew do".
I was really interested in seeing how this new Beowulf movie was going to come out. Now I am thinking I may just wait for it on DVD. I was fairly impressed with the teaser trailers, but now I am seeing CGI animated dragons and I am not so much so anymore. Plus after watching the Sarah Polley/Gerard Butler/Stellan Skarsgard directed by Gunnarson version...I'm not as into the animated technogizzery. I'll still watch it. just no this weekend. I'm still holding out for a theatrical showing of the Grettir saga anyway.
What I very well may see this weekend is Love in the Time of Cholera. I felt the book could be adapted, but only if it was a REALLY long movie...but the trailer gives me some hope. It's definitely a movie I could take Katy to go see.
Not having read the book for The Mist, the trailer ruined a plot point for me right off the bat. It's a Dimension film...so it'll be on DVD soon anyway.
City of Men looks like an action flick. A well made action flick, but if it has half the heart of City of God...it doesn't show in the trailer.
and I am more interested in I Am Legend than I expected to be.
ok. long entry. I'll go and fold laundry now (feel like I've gotta do SOMETHING productive with my weekday)
