Thanksgiving went well. My family managed to impress me by having yet another gathering without any incidence of fatalities or even permanant injury. Katy and I drove down to my Grandmother's house the morning of Thanksgiving. Got there at about 1130 am. My grandmother first upon being introduced to my girlfriend gave her a hug and offered her a mix drink. I love my grandma. And Katy poured herself a bourbon and Coke. I love my girlfriend.
Dinner was awesome. I was a little worried since most of the cooking duties have actually been taken away from my grandmother. the year before last she put the turkey in the oven all day...and forgot to turn the oven on. Anyhow, everything was great. My Aunt made my grandmother's recipe for large elbow mac n cheese to gooey perfection. I have noticed, though, in the last few years that I cannot consume as much on Thanksgiving day as I used to be able to. I used to go back for thirds and fourths. Heaping plates. I used to put up with constant speculation as to whether or not I housed, not just one, but a writhing colony of tapeworms. (that's an image guaranteed to whet an appetite!). But this Thanksgiving, I fixed one heaping plate of turkey and stuffing and of course the mac n cheese etc. And that's it. One plate. I feel such a failure. I did of course pick at the leftovers all throughout the cleaning up, but that doesn't count. I tried to redeem myself with dessert, but was only able to manage a couple of small slices of pies. oh well. I think maybe what I need is training. I need to get back into the habit of gorging myself on occasion. Though that would mean getting back into the habit of exercising on occasion. hmmmm. maybe I'll just chock it all up to progress and live with my less glutunous self as best I can.
My sister was also down for Thanksgiving. I haven't spent very much time with her in very many years. She's been living in Iowa with my mother for more than a decade. I've not gotten along well with her until lately but I've always related to her much better than my younger brother. I'll not discuss my brother and just say that my sister is very intelligent...and extremely nuts. She went through a bad patch of heavy drug use and extreme acts of body modifications...but once she got out of her teens, she's slowed down a little. She still has many more tattoos than I probably ever will and has studs impanted in her skull at the top of her forhead, but I don't think she does suspension anymore. in any case, it was great to see her. She and I can talk sarcastic over most of our family's heads and grin about it.
Other than that not much going on. Trying to figure out how I'm going to get the friends that I want to get presensts for and still be able to cover the family members that I should get presents for. hopefully work stays busy.
Also dealing with computer insanity. My computer has taken to crashing whenever i run anything with a graphics engine. Video games usually only go for a few minutes before freezing and/or rebooting the system. Same with any kind of video editor. It had me baffled. I knew that an element of my Firewall program was causing problems so I got rid of it and replaced it. Then I took a look at my video display drivers for my Nvidia setup. I've even reduced the hardware acceleration. Still no solution. I hate having a computer I paid over a grand for that can't play games. sure I like getting on the internet, but I could have bought...or built a $400 computer to do that just fine.
aargh.
the kitten continues to be precocious and cute and entirely insane.
EDIT TO ADD:
The forecast for tonight is a lovely 55 degrees with a little bit of rain.
forecast for tomorrow afternoon:
