Pretty uneventful week. Had the 231st Marine Corps Birthday Ball last weekend. It went okay. Could have been better. It wasn't so much that it was bad as...well...I got voulentold that I would be the "narrator", which means I'd be introducing the Commanding Officer and the Guest of Honor. No problem. Then it was expanded to have me reading the traditional Birthday Message written by the Commandant of the Marine Corps back in 1921. And then also the current Commandant's message. And the explanation of the cake cutting part of the ceremony...and...and...and. I ended up at the "rehearsal" until not much more than an hour before I had to be BACK. Gentlemen, if you ever want to piss off your lady friends who are looking forward to a night of getting all dressed up and attending a formal event... rush into the house and inform them that they have about ten minutes to get dressed and everything before you have to leave. I guess I didn't appreciate it either. It usually takes me that long just to get my Dress Blues jacket buttoned up. But we got there in time. I spent the entire thing, except when I was allowed to go sit at my table and eat dinner, at the podium in the front of the room. It was interesting to be able to see everything and get to meet the Guest of Honor and all that. I just felt badly that Katy was left at a table with a bunch of people she didin't know for the majority of the evening.
The Guest of Honor was a PFC from the Korean War; he served at the Chosin Resevoir. Good speaker and upbeat guy.
Other than that it's just another week of work. Thanksgiving is coming up soon. I am looking forward to the food and always wonderful comedy/drama that is my familial get togethers.
