I am sitting here trying to be as quiet as I can since Ico is sleeping in a ray of sunshine (as kittens are wont to do)
and Katy is taking an appropiately lazy midday weekend nap in the other room. Ico's been a lot of fun. I think he has had some anxiety, but is getting over it. Being seperated from his littermates and brought into a new home is sufficient to explain it I think. He tends to go from sleepy drowsy to severe hypernosispsychosis and back with amazing speed.
Yesterday I didn't work. It was just too slow of a day and they didn't need me. It's been a bit troubling of late. I've come to really dislike my job, but I need the income. I'm looking for employment elsewhere, but I don't think I'll be able to hash anything else out until the new year. My big complaint with them is that they promoted me to a higher position several months ago and I have yet to see any sort of pay increase for it. And then I recently found out that some of the lower level employees I work with are making exactly what I am making for overseeing and being responsible for thier work. :\
It's upsetting mainly because I was really intending to be taking classes right now to finish up my degree. Finances are an obstacle, but since I have, in theory, access to government funding (you know for that whole getting sent to foreign lands and being shot at thing) I should be able to surmount that. The fact that Tulane is being shitty and not releasing transcripts is another matter.
But anyhow. Katy and I took advantage of the extra day off to go see The Science of Sleep and catch a late lunch at the Alamo Drafthouse. The movie was good. I've always liked Gondry's work. The acting was well done, if a bit toned down and I enjoyed the whole overlap of Stephane's waking and dreaming life. There are elements seen in other Gondry work sprinkled about the film and overall it reminded me a lot of Eternal Sunshine. It didn't have the emotional punch that that work did, but I don't think it was meant to. It touched on some of the same relationship themes. Anyway...we enjoyed it. And the food was good too. My only complaint for Drafthouse fare will forever be the price. For $6 we ordered potato skins and recieved six small pieces of potato with a thin layer of cheese and bacon bits. :\ For the same amount I can go to Outback and get a heaping platter of starchy/dairy/bacony dietary misfortune. oh well.
Last night's meetup with the local SG folk went pretty well. Much better than last week when CRMSTYLPRN was sitting less than ten feet from Katy and I and we never knew it.
It was very likely the largest SG Austin gathering I've seen outside of an SG Burlesque show. Casino El Camino was a bit noisy, but it was stil fun. The Plympton cartoon they were showing was...well it was fucking weird, but it was fun. and the burgers...as always...were awesome...even if we did have to wait almost two hours for our individual orders.
I really hope we can get the locals together for meetings like that more often.
