The main thing I learnt in 2006: Never assume.
My resolution for 2007:To stop being so shy around people I want to get to know better.
With resolutions and life lessons out of the way, I'm hoping you'll be glad to know that I did get to Russia for my xmas holiday, despite the hiccup at the beginning of the trip (i.e 'freezing fog').
Russia was, well, interesting. Not sure if I would go back in a hurry, I feel like I saw all I needed to.
Highlights included:
-Copius amounts of vodka burning down my throat to leave a warm glow in my stomach (and a not so warm glow in there the next day)
-Celebrating new years in Red Square and meeting lots of crazy people.
-Going inside the church on spilled blood in St Petersburg and seeing the most beautiful mosiac art I have ever seen in my life.
-Going to the erotica museum (which doubled as a VD clinic in St Petersburg, coplete with nurses dressed like they were extras in a porno-real twilight zone material) to see Rassbutin's severed penis (not pretty I assure you!).
-Seeing Swan Lake in the Hermitage theatre.
-Playing in the snow.
-Bonding with other travellers on the overnight sleeper train to Moscow.
In all, a great trip. Downsides included the food (stodgy and not vege-friendly), my poor grasp of the Russian language, and seeing too many homeless dogs.
Here's some pictures....
Church on Spilled Blood (whilst it was snowing)
Snow in Vladamir
Me making my first ever snow angel
And the finished product:
I hope everyone had a great xmas, what are your goals/wishes/dreams for 2007?
Stay warm friends

Hope your weekend was splendid.
I have always wanted to go to Russia, it always looks so nice. It's a shame its probably the furthest air flight you can take from New Zealand, but one day i'll get there...
