venice!!!
i never thought i'd say this, but i just spent an awesome weekend with my mom. i wasn't really looking forward to it because we don't get along and she picked the location for us to meet up (she's teaching in rome, i'm studying in prague) and she had ignored all the places i suggested. she's closed minded. italy is great, yes, but why not try something new? so, we met in venice.
i was getting over a pretty bad cold (or the kolej cough as we call it, after our lovely soviet-style dorm covered in mysterious mold and dust) and made the mistake of accidentally staying up all night before getting on the plane. of course, mom had a full agenda for us so i got caffeinated and walked around all day. it was good weather, thankfully. i didn't protest doing all the things i knew she would want to do, just to be agreeable. i knew she was super happy to be there so i wanted to keep it that way. we had our thanksgiving dinner at a great restaurant nearby an caught up.
the second day it was raining, but we went to a bunch of churches and museums as usual. it wasn't as painful as it was when i was younger-- even last year-- because we had spent so much time apart. and, i mean, i'm interested in all that stuff anyway, we just have very different styles when it comes to traveling. i don't know how my dad deals with it. i love taking trips with him. anyway, mom and i went out to eat at a place really close to the hotel because we were soaked and cold. for italian standards, i didn't think i was that hot, but i got hit on by a kitchen full of notably attractive italians! *ego boost!* i wasn't feeling well at ALL so i had to go back to the room and cancel my other dish (gnocchi.... damnit!) i'm glad i did, though, because i puked all night and slept all day. mom was worried so she kept waking me up to make sure i didn't need a doctor. i felt bad making her stay in but i was ILL. i thought i would be able to eat something but midway through the DELICIOUS meal i felt sick again, so we took it home.
sunday was our last day together so, even though i still wasn't feeling so well, we made the best of it. it was short though, because she had to catch a train back to rome. i meandered (and by that i mean i got hardcore lost a million times) back to the hotel, changed, and went out again. i was tired by the time it was getting dark so i just came back and rested, knowing that would be best for me. i considered going out to eat but it's no fun when you're alone (as i learned in berlin!) and i wasn't sure if i could keep it down, so i literally just ate leftovers and watched tv in the hotel room! that's SO unlike me! i went to bed early so i could get up at 6 something to find the right water taxi to the airport. i'm glad i went early because the guys at the front desk told me they were going on strike at 9am (...haha, what?)
so, i'm feeling pretty good, pretty disappointed to be back in prague, but satisfied overall.
