So, I would really l appreciate anyones legal advice if they have it! I'm in a pickle here.
I recently received a "V. John Doe" subpoena in the mail from my ISP forwarded from Lightspeed Media Corp. in Chicago, Il. I called the Law Firm and received a call back from a Paralegal Attorney in Miami Beach, Fl (wtf?). He told me that Lightspeed Media (adult company) is suing towards any IP address that tried to hack into their website. They're looking to settle for $4,000!!!!!!
Now, may I just say... I live by myself, in an apartment building. I have a wifi router and DO secure it with a password. I recently had a neighbor move out around November who was soooo gross and perverted, I've heard him blaring Porn through his window and also caught him peeking into my window once. SO, Lightspeed Media claims that apparently "I hacked into thier website" (BTW, I DO NOT download porn on my computer- I have enough at home that Adam and Eve keeps sending for free, plus...what's better then Suicide Girls? ) at 6:45am October 24th.
So, correct me if I'm wrong:
1: If someone can hack into a website- they can probably hack into my Wifi,
2: If someone DOES hack into my Wifi, anything they do would be filed under MY IP address.
3: "Perverted Neighbor" moved out around November, so he was still living next door when I allegedly hacked into this website.
I've done some researching online about Lightspeed since, and honestly, go ahead- Google Lightspeed TV... the first 10 pages are full of "Hacked Password" sites. Now this says to me that maybe instead of suing these IP addresses they should either do something about their security OR go straight to the source and get the people who are posting these "Hacked Password" sites!
Anyway, going back to the legal part of all this. I don't really know what next step to take. I'm on unemployment as we speak and just teaching dance... so $4,000 OR any Lawyer fees are NOT in my budget right now. They don't have my address, just my IP address (hence the reason they sent the Subpoena to my ISP and not me directly.) But I did talk to that guy in Florida, so they probably still have my number. I don't want to just ignore it! I have to do something.
I probably left some stuff out in here, so If you need me to answer anything I missed, I'll gladly respond. But PLEASE! If anyone can help me out here, I would be so grateful! ... I feel so sick to my stomach about all this... :
SERIOUS ANSWERS AND CONCERNS PLEASE
P.S. I found this on one of the sites where someone else is going through the same thing and was wondering if it's true... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_jurisdiction
Basically saying because I live in PA and the subpoena is from IL it's Null and Void... never heard of such a thing. HELP!

What does the subpoena request though? A subpoena is just a request for information, there's no monetary claim in a subpoena.
You can PM me if you want to discuss this further as I doubt I would see any response you leave in your blog.
