Tessa's pale visage and platinum hair are still burned into my mind a decade after a night in her presence. The moon, high and full in the July night sky revealed the botanical gardens in hues of azure and navy. We sat beneath a willow in the center of a grassy field and looked into each other's eyes. We discussed a thousand trivial things, we...

I'm off women for a few years. I'm just sick of it. I had hoped courtship would be more like a Jane Austen novel.

Please tell me that was a momentary lapse...

Les Bonnes Femmes had me appreciating Claude Chabrol for the first time last night. Clotilde Joano is beyond praise, simply angelic.

I had only seen one of his other films, Le Cri du hibou. In "Hibou", Mathilda May was adorable and the plot was engaging and bizarre, but the production values reminded me of a soap opera more...

I used to be very close with a young woman from South Africa. She was, I think, the only true friend I've ever had a sexual relationship with. She was tall and curvy, she spoke and wrote Commonwealth English, she was creative and passionate, she imposed European table manners upon me and she had a nice family. I never came so close to marrying a...

I think you and sg member _earplug_ would get along.

You're lucky, being able to move people with your words.

Have a lovely night.

The holidays again. I don't dislike them so much as I find it difficult to interact with people wrapped up in the trappings of ritual. I just want to spend a little time with the people I care about, maybe listen to the radio, drink some tea, play dominos, eat nuts.

Tonight I became twenty six years old. It feels good to accomplish everything you...

There is a water fountain in the elevator lobby for my floor that shoots water a foot and a half into the air with such force that it's impossible to drink without becoming soaked. The front desk of the International Business Center faces the lobby through a glass wall, and the secretary there has the most wonderful vantage point. I imagine her keeping a spreadsheet...

first off i think you should visit the temple near you. in my experience buddhist communities are very kind and accepting of anyone who wants to learn more of dharma. i came into the temple i attended in an interesting way. my boyfriend at the time was athiest and (i guess sort of selfishly) i could not understand somone not having a belief in the spiritual. him and me and our friends went to see the documentery about the beastie boys free tibet concert. after that him and my friends developed an interest in buddhism. they started reading books but found it difficult to grasp. i knew that having a teacher would help. one day while i was stacking apples at the market where i worked a monk came in to shop. i knew he was a monk by his robes. i told him of my friends who were interested in buddhism and asked him if there was a place where they could learn more. he told me of the temple where he taught dharma and that we should come. so i went home and told my boyfriend and friends and they started attending sunday services. at first i did not go. strange i know but, i was raised southern baptist and still had the fear of other religions ingrained into me. i was taught that all other religions besides christianity were wrong, ecspecialy ones who had dieties, which christians believe are aspects of satan. although i did not truley belive this myself christain brian washing still had it's fear placed in me. after about a month of my friends going i finally went one sunday. it was hard for me but i'm so glad i did. sangha my teacher was so kind and i felt the love of god flow threw him. this was when i realised all religions were saying the same thing. love and let yourself be loved. sangha taught this better than any sunday school teacher i had ever had growing up in the church. everyone was so kind, it became my safe haven, my place to recenter every week. my friends and i would listen to teachings and then we all would have a big communal lunch after. compassion is contagious and with that many buddhist together it almost felt like utopia. i still hold the teachings of jesus close to my heart, it just saddens me that the western churches have twisted them and strayed so far from the true message. love everyone as if they were your self. the most important part of that verse being "love yourself". though buddhism teaches nonattachment what i have found most usefull from dharma are the teachings of compassion towards others. attachment is a daily struggle which begins again each morning when we wake up to samsara. i could ramble on and on. feel free to ask me any questions. have you ever seen the movie "Babe (the pig)"? it's a childrens movie but it really isn't. sangha my teacher did the best teaching relating this movie to dharma one sunday. that is why i love him so, he could take the simplest most trivial things and turn them into blessings. have a beautiful day.

peace&blessings

It was my second day at the new job today. After a lackluster Monday following only a few hours of sleep, I came in rested today and picked up coldfusion and the fusebox framework in about 4 hours. The IT director bugged out when I rewrote their incident reporting system this afternoon. I suppose it will take me a little longer to start making intelligent...

Today was vastly superior to yesterday. I excelled in everything I did.

There's a young woman in my evening class, we've been sitting together for the past three months, had dozens of pleasant conversations. We seem to have a a similar outlook and a few things in common. Every so often, it occurs to me that I don't know her name. Then I smile broadly...

I was offered the job at the business school today. Tomorrow I'm going to talk to a guy about terms, I'm sure he'll offer me more than I want. The problem with having an income when you're a student is that finaincial aid becomes more difficult to come by. I guess this is just two more weeks of work in the tax year 2002, it won't hurt me any more than my last job already has. This year, my expected family contribution for a family including only myself, was $15000. Next year it will be the same, problem is, I don't want to work full time while finishing my degree. Doesn't matter, I'm treated the same as some kid who is supported by parents making $100,000 a year. Suck. All I can really do is live like a student and ease out of my career.
