My new project is taking shape quickly. Its going to be called Noisy Film Night and will feature a movie, a cult or classic or b-movie or whatever the crowd wants. The movie will be silenced and a live band will improvise a score over it (this is one of my former bands theyre perfect for this kind of thing, these guys know how to move themes around and create textures and moods on the fly. Ill be playing bass, of course, why else would I be doing this?) An MC will handle the mike and allow all sorts of shady characters in the crowd to come up and make noise: improvise poetry, rhyme or rap, sing, dialogue whatever they want but it has to be in the context of the movie. There will probably be more than one microphone so if two people want to improvise a dialogue over the movie they can easily do it. This is sort of a movie karaoke, and you dont have to sit and watch the movie in silence if you dont want to. You can be loud and obnoxious, but Im hoping a lot of poetry will come out of it. There are a few more surprise elements that I incorporated in the last few days into the plan designed to make it succeed, but these are secret for now. Youll have to be there to see it for yourself.
