Laws are so messed up anyway. You could ask "how could a society that condoned cigarette smoking, not allow pot smoking or disallow Alcohol until 21, but allow the driving of cars at 16. Personally, I dont think you can take legislation seriously on any level when it comes to ridiculous laws like drug prohibition. Besides, its unlikely pot will be legalized anytime soon (even though probably 1 in 3 people have smoked it so what ever happened to laws reflecting the populations consensus), and as for gay marriages, this just offends conservative Christians way too much. So I think you can safely say that the laws have nothing to do with equality as much as they have to do with protecting the ignorant moral status quo of wealthy white males in power.

Yeah, the boards seem to have sucked a little lately. It seems like certain subjects keep getting repeated, too, which is kinda lame.

And yeah, what the hell kind of situation would the US be in that would present us with *either* legalizing pot or allowing gay marriage?

Maybe if the Timber industry lobbiests were all gay. Or maybe if gay activists were all straight-edge. Or if all pot-smokers were homophobes. I don't know, it's ridiculous anyways.
