So, there I was thinking that we were just gonna have a fun family drive up to Logandale. Amy found out she was going to be doing her rural rotation there, and that she could commute for it, so we wanted to see the drive. Well, part way there we started seeing the signs for the Valley of Fire and thought maybe that would be fun to drive to. We didn't have any money, so we weren't going to do anything there other than drive there and then turn around and come back, but it would be a nice drive. Okay. As it turns out, fate had other plans for us. We came across a motorcycle accident and Amy felt compelled to stop (due to being a 3rd year student doctor and all) and help out as much as she could. I can't say that I blame her. Really, I was the one who asked "Do you need to turn around?". We ended up spending about an hour and a half out in the middle of the desert helping this guy out. Okay, she helped the guy out and I tended to Rhyanna. We looked under rocks and things to find termites (we did), spiders (we did), lizards (we didn't), etc... The park rangers came, then Flight for Life and an ambulance came and the guy was flown (yes FLOWN..as in for $10,000) to the hospital. His field diagnosis was that he had a broken leg, and it wasn't a compound fracture or anything...no blood, just pain and discomfort and he'd need some surgery. And they took Flight for Life when there was a perfectly good Ambulance on the scene. Hate to think what would happen if someone else actually needed FFL while he was being transported, but I digress. The park rangers gave us a free pass to the park for helping out. The guy's friend gave us his card and said he wanted to send us something for helping out. Amy said she'd check up on him at the hospital, since she had to work there on Monday anyway. All in all, it was a pretty cool thing to see her do her stuff in the field. It wasn't a fun day, but it was fulfilling. After we got home, I got something to eat and left for work. About an hour after being at work, I discovered that I had heat exhaustion and I had to come home with a massive headache, being dizzy and tired and miserable from being in the sun for 2 hours without water, sunscreen, or even a hat. Well, now I know what to keep in the car. Crazy day, though. I got home, drank about a gallon of water, took zinc and potassium, and fell asleep watching movies. I feel fine today. And I have a fun story to tell.
