Anytime someone says "I don't want to be serious, right now." What they are really saying is "there is something about you that I can't see myself getting serious with you ever."
Cause no guy, would ever say that to a girl that he could see himself with in the future.
So regardless of what I personally want from a situation it sucks to hear this because it kind of kills hope for the future. I am sure there are exceptions to the rule, but this has been my experience.
I think what is important to note here, is that it has nothing to do with labels. Actions are much more important than labels.

I don't think that is necessarily true. We have all had those times where the last thing that we want is a relationship (insert reason here) but that doesn't mean that we don't want companionship. So if I ever felt that a girl was leaning more towards a relationship in my companion phase, I would definitely have to tell her. Because there is nothing worse than getting attached and then finding out that the other person is not even on the same page...which usually happens right after you have made some declaration of your love for them. Better up front than later on for sure.

Actions are the most important, watch those not the words. But in general for me I would only say those words to someone I knew it was not going to ever be serious with. I just know it when I meet someone and I feel it... it may be bad timing or something else but I would never say that if I thought there was a possibility of something with this person.
