Hi! I’m @Kahu, I've been with Suicide Girls since 2009, I can’t believe it’s been so long. I had my lows and highs here, I took breaks too but I always came back. And I have to admit one thing, SuicideGirls has had huge impact on my life. I have met so many wonderful people within the SG community, traveled around Europe because of photos and had a lot adventures. Being a model for SG helped me believe in myself and be more confident with myself. I’ll always be so thankful to be given opportunities to be a part of this wonderful community.
1. What is your favorite hobby?
I love creative process, creating is like air for my soul, I can’t breathe without it so I have a lot of hobbies but my main is sewing and this is what I like doing the most.
2. When did you get into sewing?
When I was child, we had sewing machine at home so I had easy access to it. I observed my grandma sewing for her customers and when she was finished with her work, I would try to recreate what she did. I started from drawing projects of what I would like to wear and after I was finding some textiles, sometimes only small pieces which had different colors and structures. When I was teenager I made my first outfit for myself and I wore it in public. I got so many positive reviews and when I was 13 I sold my first item which was a bag I designed and made.
3. How did you learn? Did you take a class, watch videos, or just teach yourself?
First person who showed me how beautiful sewing was, was my grandma. With time, lessons which she gave me wasn’t enough so I started a course where I improved my skills. I learned on online classes too and from people for who I work with but it was specific knowledge connected only with making pole dance clothes.
4. What kinds of things do you like to sew?
I was small business owner and opened it because I thought making clothes and accessories for babies will be really good idea. I wanted to make something unique so I prepared patterns for textiles. I went through whole process. If you create patterns for textiles first step is paint parts of pattern or make it on iPad. I really like watercolors so all of it was painted and after I sent it to printing house. I got ready to use material with my unique pattern. It was really long process so in the meantime I started to make bags, hipbags and backpacks. It was something totally unexpected, but I got some many positive feedbacks so after time this was something I like to sew the most.
5. What is your most favorite thing you’ve ever created?
I started collaboration with tattoo artist who did my back tattoo. She told me her ideas and i sent her drawings base on it. I designed a whole collection for her and make construction of every item in her future store. She was really into Japanese style so we made kimonos, tunics and of course my favorite, bags with her unique Japanese patterns. You can see on photos, her illustration and clothes which I designed for her. It was really satisfying doing this collection probably because it was a bit challenging and new for me but I’m really proud of it.
6. Are you working on any sewing projects at the moment?
Unfortunately no. In this moment I’m more focus on my school because I would like to work as UX/UI designer so it’s my priority. At this time I make bags only for friends.
7. What other kinds of creative hobbies do you have?
For sure all what’s connected with programming and design because I chose it as my new career path. I love painting, mostly watercolors but digital art is something what I would like to learn, I draw in procreate mainly projects for tattoos but with time I would like to increase my knowledge about it and try to create illustrations for children books or pattern for textiles.
8. What do you do with your creations? Do you sell them, give them away as gifts, or collect them?
For the past couple years I've been trying to do sewing full time, it was something what I dreamed about but unfortunately, I wasn't able to earn enough so I started working in online store and had to closed my business. In this moment of my life sewing is more hobby than occupation. I miss it everyday but my creations are now more like gifts to my friends than way to earn money.
9. Are there any new hobbies you’d like to try?
Yes, it’s photography. I was thinking about it for a long time. I need a photoshop to work with for paintings which I want to change the surface patterns of. So maybe if I’ll know better how to use this program, it will be easier for me to take photo. I have an aesthetic sense and creative mind but it’s plan for further future because it means a lot of new investments.
