I've been wanting to update this series for ages.
PLANK WATCH EPISODE 2: VINDICE'S ENCOUNTERS WITH STUPID CUSTOMER SERVICE FOLK, extended to include the online company I work for which provides essays for students to plagiarise.
I quit Academic Knowledge UK. Pow! You see, there was this thing a while ago when I needed an extention on account of technical difficulties, like not being able to use the internet. Or open Microsoft Word. So I emailed them (from a cyber cafe) asking them for 24 hours. They sent an email six hours later saying "that's fine." The next day I get an email detailing the monetary penalties for late submission. I say, whoa, I thought I had an extension. They say, you did - extentions are granted under totally extroardinary situations at the cost of 20% of the researchers fee. If you hadn't had an extention, we'd just have sacked you.
Now, I just written an essay on the McDonaldisation of Work and Culture. And they sent me this:
"Report format was asked for.
Simple language has been used, please rephrase the simplistic text.
The essay does not actually answer the question.
The essays pretty much just describes the subject and does not analyse it.
The researcher discusses traffic wardens in Birmingham, this is only useful to the customer if they are from that area.
regards, Plank."
So I sent them my response explaining that the piece had been written in what I believed to be report format. If this was not acceptable, then a definition of what Academic Knowledge MEANT by Report Format might have been more useful to me than simply repeating the words I'd already read. That I do accept the essay may have been more analytical, but believed it was acceptable for a 2:1 standard. That I certainly consider it did directly answer the question, with examples, and NEVER, in my WHOLE LIFE, has any bitch accused me of using over-simplistic language. Bitch. And finally, that my understanding of Academic Knowledge was that it was intended for educational purposes, not as a plagiarism site, and so what does it matter if my examples are local to Birmingham, because - on account of it not being plagiarism - the customer is not supposed to directly quote them anyway?
FLOCK OFF!!!
Are any employers reading this journal? This is to let you know that I am the pain in your ass.
regards,
Vindictive the cow.
