she passed away peacefully yesterday...in her own house, in her own bed, looking out on the gorgeous day, the clouds parting as if to make way just for her...she was surrounded by everyone who loved her...her daughter and son-in-law, her husband of 62 years, her grand children, her great grand daughter...she could hear Dahlia's laughter and little footsteps tapping back and forth across the patio outside her open window...she could smell the garlic and rosemary chicken roasting in the oven as I slaved away in the kitchen, wearing one of her frilly pink aprons from the 50's...my grandpa, beer in hand, watching over my shoulder...his hair still silver-slick and pomade-perfect, despite the days circumstances...my mom had asked her if she was scared...she had smiled and said "no...I'm not Catholic ya know"...her subtle wit firmly in place to the end. We all kissed her goodbye...while Dahlia said "night-night ganny-co"
