Viking's walkabout:
So I have this old stale loaf of bread that I was going to throw out. But after reading AnnaLee's journal I decided to feed it to the ducks. "What a wonderful thing to do on a Saturday when I have no other plans" I thought. As I live not far from the Yarra River I figured this would be a logical place for ducks to be. So off I wandered down to the Yarra, near the bridge at the top of Bridge Rd in Richmond. There was no ducks there to my surprise, I wondered why. "Was it because the Yarra is a filthly poluted river or was it because there were crocodiles?" So then I decided to go to Albert Park as I remembered there was a big lake there, "lake's have ducks!" I said to myself. So I carried on down to Bridge Rd until I got to Church St. Luckily my stale loaf of bread was in a backpack otherwise people would have thought me very odd carrying a stale loaf of bread around. There is a tram that runs along Church St and goes to St Kilda, that seemed like a good option as there may be ducks at the beach and St Kilda is close to Albert Park. I decided I need to refuel before taking that tram, luckily there was a coffee shop close by. After poached eggs on toast and 2 long blacks I was ready to go again. The tram ride was good, riding through Prahan and seeing all the people shopping was entertaining. Finally I got to St Kilda, I love the sea, there was a lovely offshore breeze (or is it onshore?) coming from the sea. I walked to the edge of the surf and took in 10 deep breathes of briney air. Lovely! A quick scout around and no ducks could be found. O well. I wandered up Fitzroy St enjoying the sights of people eating and drinking. I nearly stopped a the Prince for a beer, but no, I was no a mission! I jumped on the number 16 tram as I was not sure how far away Albert Park. As I sat on the tram I remembered there was the botanical gardens just off St Kilda Rd, "botanical gardens always have ducks and wee lakes" I thought. So I got off at the Domain and walked up to the War Memorial. Wow! it was very impressive, I had a look at the perpetual flame and walked in to the memorial. The sadness of the place was palpable.. so I didn't stay long. I loved the stunning view of the Melbourne city skyline from there as well. I checked a map on a sign and worked out how to get to the gardens and I could see there was a wee lake there as well. The gardens were beautiful and the bird song was magic. I found the lake after a bit, but there was no ducks, I could not believe it. I then began to wonder if they had migrated north for the winter. O well it was a lovely day nonetheless.
I still have a loaf of stale bread.

A lovely story, if sad. The stale bread will stay stale, you can feed it to the ducks tomorrow.
