happy new year!

I went to see me some winter sea!

There were ducks in the harbour.

And boats and stuff.

Sometimes I get so excited by the future, I find it hard to understand how the past endures. Why are there still pirate ships when we could all be sailing in catamarans? They're way more stable, and faster. Why is radio still around now that we have 3D television? And (maybe) the answer is that what these things lack in innovation they make up for in badassery. I like listening to the radio, and 3D TV would probably give me a headache (both because of my eyes and also the loan I'd have to take out). Catamarans are expensive to make as well, and they look stupid compared to the old school swagger of the majestic sea galleon, whispering of ripping yarns and seabound adventure. I have to remind myself these things because I'm not very into reminiscing and nostalgia. I like change and moving forward. (Where are the spaceboats and the holowatches?!) I've gotten used to thinking the past sucks, because it has in some ways, and every year of my life has been better than the last. But actually last year was really great, and maybe from now on I can remember good things about the past and silence my past-hating brain.

So I'm saying goodbye to 2013, which has been a hard in some ways dull in some ways but overall successful year, with a few exciting bits, and hi to 2014. Last year my resolution was to learn to drive but my instructor kept canceling on me and made it difficult. This year I'm going to learn to drive! Finally. (The test is harder in the UK than the US, OK? Quit judging me!! I never had the money to get lessons before.) Also, I've been avoiding exercise my whole life, and I think that might have to change. Rather than buy a gym membership and never use it, a while ago I decided to work out hard for every day of one week. It was mainly a willpower test. I passed! It hurt. At the end, I was walking like John Wayne. But it was good, and I'm going to join. I'll probably go like 2 or 3 times a week, because every day would be insane.

Christmas was good. I ate lots of delicious foods which unaccountably only seem available in shops during December. I visited many people. I even had a tree!

Christmas comes just after my birthday, so I think you can see some birthday cards in that picture.

Christmas is also a time when I get to remember how socially awkward I still am. This isn't something I see as part of my quirky and offbeat personality, it's just internally painful and annoying. I try to ignore it and get on with my life, and make chitchat about mincepie recipes and the price of installing a woodburning stove in your chimney.

I think my 3rd resolution will be to save money, because I'm thinking of going travelling in 2015. Like, for months, hopefully, depending on what I can save. So I think 2014 is gonna be a bit of a build-up year to the excitement of 2015, at which point I will have gymmed my way into unbelievable levels of fitness and hotness hitherto thought to be possessed only by nymphs and goddesses of legend. Also I'll be able to drive.

You may use my current set (which went live on xxxmas eve) #classiccar some sort of benchmark. It's only gonna get hotter from here. ;)

"Get fit" has got to be the most standard resolution ever. What are yours?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

You are utterly exquisite - both in how you look, and how you think. I prefer Radio to Television, because, quite honestly, the pictures are better. Take the genius show 'The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy'. On radio, it spanned endless vistas, featured endlessly repeated clones [I was always worried that the Lintillas would suffer replicative fading], huge spaceships, the end of the universe, and a pocket universe in somebody's office. Your imagination filled in Douglas Adams' blanks. On TV, it was good, don't get me wrong, but a little flat and shabby.  I always prefer radio. I love your photographs of Wells-next-the-sea. It always looks better in winter. I love bleak landscapes, and Norfolk has some of the absolute best. I'm a Suffolk bloke, but I do enjoy a bit of Norfolk bleakness now and then. Much love, xxxxx
