It looks like either Rye or Winchelsea, in West Sussex. Rudyard Kipling had a big house called 'Batemans' in Sussex. Rye is beautiful - a small town that was once an island, it clings to the sides of a hill that is the only high point for miles around, sticking up from the desolate (and well creepy) Romney Marsh.
