While I enjoy the music I listen to as much as I like going to shows, I've realized that four out of my top five bands don't exist anymore. That means I will never get to see four of my five absolute favorite bands. How disappointing is that?
1. The Descendents
I saw ALL three years ago, and it wasn't good enough. I can just hear you now, "DUH. ALL kinda sucks, and they're not the Descendents." At least they covered a couple Descendents tracks; that wasn't so bad. But still. It's not the same, and I just have this aching suspicion the Descendents will never tour again.
2. The Ramones
I love the Ramones more than I do lots of things. I must say this band never fails to cheer me up. Despite how shitty I might feel, I can easily put on one of their many amazing songs and feel instantly better. Since three out of the four original members of the band are dead, there is no chance for any kind of tour.
3. Screeching Weasel
Like Ben Weasel would ever wanna play again. Yeah, yeah, there was the "surprise" show in Chicago with the Mr. T Experience, but guess what? I don't live anywhere near Chicago! The closest was when I was in Minneapolis, though I couldn't see MTX because I was not yet 21 and the Triple Rock Social Club wouldn't have made an exception. At least I saw MTX in Ft. Worth. Of course, I'm going off on a tangent. Ben Weasel has hinted at touring as soon as the band found a new label for their re-releases. They have (Asian Man), but a tour? Nope. And that Sweet Black and Blue shit won't cut it.
4. The Queers
I've seen them five times. They are the exception here.
5. The Boys
These guys RULE, and they make some of the funnest, snottiest punk rock around. I don't have much to say about the Boys, but they're totally great, and everyone should own their self-titled debut.
Of course, to continue the list would take eons, as I mostly listen to late 70's and early-to-mid-80's punk rock and 90's pop-punk. If only I were able to see the Pointed Sticks or the Exploding Hearts. Or what about the Zero Boys or the Buzzcocks? If only.
