I live in the north east and work on and ride snowmobiles for a living. I had to remove my brow piercing for the same reason. It would get so cold it felt like someone was ripping it out. A plastic bar helped a bit but still sucked!!! 

tragic! like you don't have any qualified volunteers to warm them up? lol
