I've been wanting to do this annually the last several years, and keep forgetting. With my rather small concert schedule this year (courtesy of Ghetto Mart), It's easy to do one. Small victories! LOL
The season started -for me -this year with one of the concert scene's legends. I was a Jimmy Buffett virgin (though I know more of his songs than most neophytes) before the show at Star lake. WHAT A GOOD TIME. I enjoyed myself so much I added another show in July at the Blossom. Same vibe as a Dead/Phish show, older crowd -with booze being the drug of choice. And yet- no slogger drunkards in sight! Winner ='biggest party' and' most fun show'.
One week later, I got one of only 2 Buffalo shows of the summer at Rocks the Harbor. Dark Star Orchestra and Soulive was a great package. Good to see Soulive still has it-it's been more than 10 years since I've seen 'em -and DSO as always was stellar, turning in a 'fantasy' show with still a 70's feel (all tunes 70s era Dead). With my Buffalo and several of my J-town friends in attendance, this nabs 'biggest whistle stop.'
July 9th I got my one festie of the season at Sprague Brew Work's Folk Festival. Intimate venue with great beer that can only get better. Richie Stearns and Tiger Maple were fantastic and what Donna the Buffalo show -isn't?
Then, one on the 12th I always wait anxiously for-easily one of my all time faves in the mere few years I've been a fan.
Yonder Mountain absolutely gets more and more incredible performance wise each and every time I see them, and tonight was no exception. Winner =hands down, 'best musical performance'
It was only a 1 hour ish show, and about an hour to get there. But I've been DYING to see the ROCKRIDGE BROTHERS play again ever since I saw them my only other time at Grassroots 2005. The Swedish bluegrass group didn't disappoint, and even gave me the news that they'll likely be at GBH next year or the year after! Yippee!
Then -July 26, easily the concert event of the year. i've already given a full review of my U2 360 experience. But I still repeat it was one of -THE most spiritual experiences I've had musically. (Though I certanly also need to include my only 'Morning Dew' from Deer Creek GD 1994 along with it) By a landslide - 'Best concert of the season-and year'
