Yesterday I was lucky enough to score a free copy of DC Universe: Rebirth through comiXology. From the very beginning I got suuuuuper excited about this new run. Although I do love that DC has decided to scrap everything and start again, I am sad to see the New 52s go, but I am liking that the Rebirth run is very reminisce to the 'golden age' which I didn't think I would. (SPOILERS)
I do really fucking love that they kept the Flashpoint still, it does make total sense though, that "Rebirth" is just another universe running parallel to previous ones, which means not all from previous runs is lost. Well assuming that how they're gonna end up incorporating it all, I'm just guessing. This was a really great introduction to this new run. Giving enough hints to establish a new universe and get really excited it, but also with just giving it all away. I think they really nailed this by having Wally doing almost pit stops around the world trying to get a message to some other more familiar favourites. The first page straight away had me thinking of The Watchmen, so I couldn't not love it. Im trying to not just list of all the things I loved about this new run but its so hard not too. Even the paneling got me excited, it flowed so well and the use of space was incredible.
This page was my favourite for that especially, whilst also showing a glimpse of what I'm definitely most excited for! WONDER WOMAN! Can not wait for this one and too see what they do with the whole her having a twin brother and all, which is pretty much all we're given in the way of hints of what they are gonna do with her story line. I don't want to speculate too much, but I do feel as if they have drawn her younger here (in her cover below). Either way SUPER KEEN!
Probably my favourite part of the Rebirth so far that had me actually giggling with excitement was this;
THIS CROSS OVER IVE BEEN WAITING FOR! Like holy fuck this. When I saw the first bloody page I was like "Man this is so Watchmen." And then with Wally's narration I was like "Damn this hella sounds like Dr. Manhattan in chapter IV." Then they just tagged this on the end of it! AH! Man. Very happy Vexia over here. Really interested how they're gonna incorporate these two. Just from the look of the last page it looks like Adrian once again is the mastermind that has fucked with everyone.
However, almost sounds like he was trying to do the right thing and help out but messed it up? Which I really don't know, I don't see 'the smartest man alive' making a mistake unless his doing it on purpose and well it looks like Dr. Manhattan is gonna sit back and watch him screw it up. Because I am under the impression he can see every possibility, so every universe that could play out so he would've seen the result of the Flashpoint on either side with or with Adrian's meddling.
Ah man! I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out what they're gonna do with this. Especially cause they've announced 21 other titles and their release dates but none of them are Watchmen related. So I'm lead to believe its gonna be kinda tagged on the end of issues like this.
What did you like in the new Rebirth? What characters are you excited to see what they do with?!
Also in other cool news, but in the Marvel world, they have just announced their Subscription service! $10 a month for all online reading, haven't looked into it yet but if anyone had tried it let me know?!
Much love,
