The internet ate this post, but I'm foolishly trying again. If it devours this one (it randomly reloaded the page just as I was getting close to done...the internet is a prick) I'll know it wasn't meant to be.
So the birthday itself was pretty shitty. I overslept and left late for Palm Springs, where I was meeting the parents, which consequently caused the theoretical 3 and a half hour drive into a 6 hour drive...6 hours of traffic.More traffic than I've ever been forced to endure before, and I have been driving back and forth from SB to SD (through LA) for more than 6 years now. Even better, I forgot my books and could do no homework and forgot my bag so had no clothes or toothbrush. It just wasn't meant to be a good birthday.
However, it rounded out nicely when I got there and went to dinner with the folks, and the weekend as a whole was very nice, I have to admit. Living on my own in Santa Barbara is lonely at the best of times and my apparent inability to make or maintain friends causes me a fair amount of grief some days. It was nice to spend time with family.
The drive back was perfect, a little over 3 hours and with a fair few exciting high speed maneuvers I'm a cautious person by nature, except when behind the wheel it seems. Probably not very smart, but it's innate.
Also, I'm sorry but I find it necessary to add a picture of my dog. I still seem to miss her.
