Here comes an epic blog.
Yes I'm still alive, I'm just a lazy motherfucker, and in strange contrast to this statement, last month I achieved one of the things on my list of Stuff To Do Before I Die.

I went to New York. And before I say anything else I want to thank vimes, gonzo77 and zoomusikgrl, who I finally had the pleasure of meeting IRL. You guys are fucking awesome and I wouldn't have had half the time I had in the city without you guys. Maximum love.
So...pictures!
I took a lot of photos of the subway. They're not terribly good as I only had a crappy little snapshot camera but they're something. I loved the subway. Old, filthy, full of weird atmospheres and history. I also saw plenty of my Stateside minions frolicking about on the tracks - I freaked a guy out by squealing in adoration watching two fat, grubby ratties playing Tag and wrestling. Gorgeous infested little darlings. But yes, not such a fascinating place for most people so here's just my favourite pictures.

New York has buildings too. Lots of them. Here's a few.
(My favourite)

The view from my hotel window on East 30th Street. Gorgeous.

A chocolate and vanilla marble cheesecake brownie. It took me two days to eat and it was amazing. From Tasty Cafe on Madison, where I also had all my breakfasts.

I love that this skyscraper had to be built with a hole in it to accommodate a listed building.

Times Square.

Vimes insisted on taking me and my mum to the Apple store on Fifth. I was determined not to go, having fallen out spectacularly with Apple products over the last few months, but going down that spiral staircase and being confronted with banks of gleaming hardware and gorgeous boys attending to my every Apple-based need was just too much for my little brain to take and I bought an iPod Touch. GODDAMMIT.
Me and Vimes looking cooler than you fuckers ^_^

The American Museum of Natural History.

This giant tortoise had such an amusing expression I had to be photographed next to him.

Being an EPIC biology nerd I had a great time in that place. However there are only so many photographs one can post on the internet of very large dead animals, which can wear thin for people who have come in the hope of seeing boobies, so I will just say it's awesome and go and have a look for yourself. Set at least two days aside. There's dead fetuses in jars and shit it's wicked.
What next...
Ah, yes. My reason for going to NY in February rather than a more clement time of year was to see Rufus Wainwright play solo in New Jersey. It's the third time I've seen him live but the first time I've seen him on his own, he did all his old material and it was so beautiful I sobbed like an idiot and nearly cried my false eyelashes off. How I adore that man.
Rufus

Me and vimes on the spazz

After we saw Rufus, vimes took us to an IHOP. I had a short stack with bacon and maple syrup, followed by acute indigestion. I still have a sugar packet that I kept as a souvenir.
On my last day I spent most of my time being shown around the East Village by zoomusikgrl and gonzo77, a far more relaxed part of town, and I had my first experience of a Starbucks. I asked the girl for a cup of tea and she asked if I wanted ice. I said in a small voice that I didn't understand and I just wanted normal tea, which apparently doesn't exist. I had to ask for a black tea latte or something. It kind of scared me, much to the amusement of my more experienced tour guides.
This is me in the lobby of the Thirty Thirty hotel, tired, in need of a wash, and eating a sammich in preparation for a seven hour flight home. Courtesy of Gonzo77!

I also saw this in JFK. I LOLed.

But yes...everything I experienced in those four short days made me pretty much convinced that I need to be in New York. I have never felt so at home in such a strange place. So on my list I have crossed out "Go to" and written "Live in", and I'll see where that gets me. I cried on the plane there because I'd never flown before and I was frightened. I cried on the way back because I didn't want to leave.
So there you have it. That was February.
