All alone.
I'm here at work all alone. It's 2am and I am supposed to be preparing for the start of a new division I am in charge of where I work. I am prepared. I am prepared for most things in life. Most.
I showed up early and walked around Center City in Philly. Philly at night is very mystical. There are a lot of contrasts. There are streets that are dreadfully eventful with young adults bustling from one trendy restaurant to the next with taxis crowding the street waiting to whisk them away. The outside lights of the bars and restaurants cascade on to the sidewalk where gaggles of women and packs of men fueled by booze and insecurity look for that someone who might relieve their loneliness. At least for a few hours. The next block will be dark and desolate and on the fringe the homeless and crazy watch with an uncomfortable gaze. I wonder how they got that way and what led them to the fringe.
I am somewhere in the middle.
Tomorrow (or today actually) I continue getting my sleeve finished. 6 hours of needle to flesh. I can't wait. It's like therapy. What do you like most about the actual tattooing? I like the smell. There is a distinct smell --- I'm not sure what it is --- maybe a mixture of needle to flesh, ink, the green liquid on paper towels that wipes up the blood and my artists perfume. I take pleasure in it.
5am update!!!
My new division is up and running and it will be a VERY good day today!
