Hello World!
Online very briefly so not able to read/respond to all your sweet messages. Still without power. Just starting to get water back, but doing fine. Thanks for the well wishes and concern. Not to worry. Beneath this laid back exterior beats the heart of an anal retentive beast. I am ALWAYS prepared.that's something you should know about me. Or at least I try to be, as much as one can be for the big events, anyway. The larder's stocked. Am armed with hand-cranked radios, hand crank lights, candles, and charcoal briquettes for barbecuing.
Although the situation's bad, a lot of good's come from it. We've been pulling together like the Whos of Whoville. Helping each other out, pooling together resources, sharing supplies and tools. In my home: Barbecued mesquite smoked coffee and tea's become the house specialty, along with mesquite smoked canned ravioli...mmmm....mmmmm. There's such a strong sense of community here. We're all hot, uncomfortable, our routines have been broken, yet we're there for each other. Stories like this are happening all across town.
There are many things I like to gripe about when it comes to Houston, but times like this remind me of all the things I love about this place and its people. There's a resiliency, a feistiness to be found, also a real generosity in the face of hardship. Well....not sure when power will be restored or when I'll be back online, but all is well and will return soon.

Continental Airlines to resume flights monday at Houston
HOUSTON, Sept. 14, 2008 Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) is preparing to resume mainline jet flights Monday, Sept. 15, at its Houston hub at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) following the carriers suspension of operations Saturday and Sunday in Houston due to Hurricane Ike. The carrier plans to operate the vast majority of its schedule to and from IAH. The first flight is scheduled to arrive at 5:33 a.m. and the first departure is at 6:30 a.m. Continental Express and Continental Connection flights to and from the Houston hub will operate at a reduced level on Monday.
Continental employees from other domestic locations will fly into Houston to assist their co-workers in resuming operations at the IAH hub.
Normal operations will continue at the carriers New York and Cleveland hubs. In a message earlier today to Continentals 44,000 employees, nearly 20,000 of them Houston-based, Larry Kellner, Continentals chairman and CEO said, I know that my co-workers have gone through many sacrifices and hardships to try to return their personal lives to normalcy after Hurricane Ike, and theyve helped each other and our customers in that effort. I want to thank them for all theyve done. I also want to thank our customers, many of whom are sharing the same personal and professional challenges, for taking the time and effort to express their understanding and gratitude to our team.
As always, make sure your personal safety and the safety of our co-workers and customers is your top priority.
The Mayors Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security has informed Continental that the curfew currently in effect for the city does not apply to customers or employees driving or being driven to and from IAH.

H-E-B Partners (employees) from other regions, including Central and San Antonio, have traveled to impacted areas along the Gulf Coast to provide assistance to hurricane-stricken areas and to support the H-E-B Disaster Relief community efforts. The extra workforce is necessary to help re-open H-E-B Houston stores, re-stock shelves and ensure affected residents can go to H-E-B for the supplies they need following the storm.
H-E-B is also diligently working to get fuel to all H-E-B Fuel Stations. Despite fuel costs of around $5 a gallon, H-E-B is committed to delivering fuel to H-E-B Fuel Stations throughout Texas and will continue to offer it at the lowest possible retail price. To do this, the company plans to absorb much of the cost increase in order to assist its customers during this time of need.
The safety of Partners and customers are the top priority to H-E-B. Additional stores will open as soon as it is deemed safe for H-E-B Partners and customers.
AIRLINES:
Airlines resume some flights Monday at Bush and Hobby
Airlines resume some flights Monday, September 15, at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport; Houston curfew does not apply to air travelers and airport workers
Houston, TX (September 14, 2008) Starting Monday, Sept. 15, some airlines will resume flights into and out of Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).
Air travelers are advised to arrive at the airport for their flight at least two hours before the scheduled departure. While the City of Houston has issued a curfewanyone who has a confirmed airline seat needs to be able to provide proof of travel plans if they are driving on Houston roads after 9:00 p.m. or before 6:00 a.m. as they are traveling to and from one of Houstons airports. Airport employees who drive to and from the airports will need to provide a photo ID if they are traveling during the curfew hours.
Due to the fact that some airlines are resuming flights and others are waiting until Tuesday, Sept. 16, it is very important that customers confirm travel plans with their individual airline prior to going to the airport.
Flooding still exists on some roads and recent rain since Hurricane Ike has caused additional flooding. Travelers are advised to allow extra time on their way to the airports to safely navigate the access roads.
Air travelers may also check flight schedule changes with the Houston Airport System flight tracking information line at 281-230-7000 or www.fly2houston.com.

Random: do you like Big Band music? I bought a Glenn Miller CD yesterday, and it's pretty badass (remind me to stop using the word "badass). I guess I'm officially turning into an old man before my time. Or maybe I just have good taste. Hmm???
