Hey guys!
I haven't wrote a blog in so long! As usual, being a busy bee and juggling between school and work doesn't leave me much time to spend on SG! I thought I would write a little something about a big change that I decided to make about 3-4 weeks ago: transitionning to veganism!
[ I stole the questions from the "Vegan" group on SG!]
How long have you been vegan? Were you vegetarian beforehand?
So about 4 years ago, I was vegetarian. I then dropped because I was restricting myself like crazy. Then, 2 years ago, I switched back to vegetarianism and I now have been vegan for 3-4 weeks!
What was your introduction to veganism? What "sold" you on the lifestyle?
I started watching That Vegan Couple on Youtube and then, as per their recommendation, I watched What the Health and Cowspiracy, as well as Gary Yourofsky's speech. And I can tell you, if you watch all of this and it doesn't AT LEAST make you think, I've got some serious questions for you brah.
What was your transition to veganism like? What was the hardest part &how did you deal?
It was incredibly easy. The key is to do your research. And there are so many alternatives now, there's literally no excuse! I just got rid of what wasn't vegan in my fridge and made sure it was packed with fruits, veggies, rice, potatoes, quinoa, pasta and legumes and that's it!?
What's the hardest part about being vegan now?
The hardest part is dealing with the ignorance. I've only been vegan for about a month and the ignorance is real!? "But your protein tho?/ But it's restrictive!?/ Oh but I only buy free range and grass fed, humanely killed meat". It's so frustrating and sad.
Which websites, books, or other resources do you think are *musts* for the new vegan?
That Vegan Couple on Youtube and IG
The documentaries mentionned above.
Your absolute favorite vegan food? And your favorite treat? (So hard to answer, I know!)
Favorite breakfast: Oatmeal with almond milk, vegan chocolate protein, walnuts, bananas, dates and hemp seeds!
Favorite instant comfort food: Daiya Mac' n' cheese!
Your favorite restaurants in your area? What is your area &is it an awesome place to be vegan?
I'm in Montreal and it is pretty easy to be vegan here as there are several vegan markets. There is not that many vegan restaurants but there is a place called LOV that makes a crazy good kale mac n cheese!
Lastly, what keeps you vegan when it gets hard
Although I've only been vegan for a month, there is no difficulty. Eat enough, make sure you consume enough calories, enough carbs and have fun with it! Also, knowing that I don't participate in the cruelty shitfest that are the dairy, egg and meat industries is motivation enough!
Honestly, the best decision I have made so far. And if some of you guys were kinda thinking about this, believe me: It's easy, no it's not restrictive, yes you'll get enough protein, yes you can be a gym freak and vegan, no those canines are not for meat. If you have any questions on the channels and documentaries I have watched, I would be happy to answer them, but I would also suggest to do your own research, watch the channel I have linked above, watch the documentaries. Then, the decision should honestly be easy to take!
Kisses!
