If You Think American Drunk Driver Laws Are Tough , Consider This :
AUSTRALIA :
The names of the drivers are printed in local newpapers under the heading, "He's drunk and in jail."
TURKEY :
Drunks are taken 30 miles from town by the police and forced to walk back under escort.
POLAND :
Offenders are jailed, fined and forced to attend political lectures.
ENGLAND :
One year supervision, 1 year jail , $250 fine.
FRANCE :
Three years loss of license , 1 year in jail , $1,000 fine.
SOUTH AFRICA :
The penalty is a 10-year prison sentence , or the equivalent of a $10,000 fine or both.
MALAYA :
The driver is jailed . If he's married , his wife is jailed too.
FINLAND / SWEDEN
Automatic jail , one year at hard labor.
NORWAY :
The penalty is 3 weeks in jail at hard labor, and one year loss of license.
Second offense within 5 years , the license is revoked for life.
RUSSIA :
License is revoked for life.
BULGARIA :
A second conviction results in execution.
EL SALVADOR :
Your first conviction is your last . Execution by firing squad.
I picked this up during a recent driver safety seminar . Could be valuable information
when considering a vacation in a foreign country.
