To recap, I'm drawing a romance comic. This is a romantic comedy, much in the vein of...I dunno. Some romantic comedy.
Originally I chose this project to a)excorcise some demons and confront some fears about love, relationships and the opposite sex, and b)to actually do a project that I can show teenagers that don't like violence, sex or drugs. Or sci-fi.
Today I got through the long-awaited/dreaded kissing scene. I've been dreading it for the past year.
I've never drawn a kiss before on a page. I've drawn zombie ninjas, I've drawn cyborg bears, I've drawn nazi robot armour, valkyries...everything. I have never...ever...been asked to draw two people kissing.
I would rather draw cyborg nazi bear armour. There has seriously been nothing less terrifying to me than that kiss.
How to draw something sensitively? How to draw something that actually affects the reader, convinces them that THIS moment isn't cliche? That THIS will rip at their heartstrings? That THIS will truly define the characters that we've read about all along, truly reveal who they are in this story?
Christ. Thoughts like that drive me nuts...thank god for Soundgarden.
