I've had one of my better weekends. Stopped having weird dreams.
Friday night I was planning on staying at home. But my friend Johan called me up and wanted me to come down quick. So I met up with him at a place called Grna Jgaren - it means The Green Hunter - which is also a euphemism for the Hammarby football team, a team whose staunchest supporters are the blue collar working class. Most patrons had 10 years on me. Johan has this amazing ability to pick the most incompatible bars possible. I am NOT a bar person. But Johan is one of my best friends here so I always support him when he wants company. Johan has the 'Gift of Gab'. He can talk to anyone. Which is why he doesn't really care where he drinks. I philosophically decided to just observe, talk and enjoy a world I didn't belong to. We ended up sitting next to a very handsome butch bisexual lady by the name of Anneli who provided much fodder for thought on lifestyles during conversation. Also there were two single mothers in their late 30's with teenage sons between them ("no daughters, thank God" they told me) who were perhaps a little surprised that one of 2 good looking young men actively wanted to converse (guess who).
Later on we split off and I joined Jacob, my Tanzanian up-and-coming rap artist (he has the talent, all he needs is A&R) and we went to a hiphop night. There I wiped the cobwebs off my long mothballed boogaloo and liquid moves and - very shy at first - let the groove make my body do the talking. The reaction from my corner of the dancefloor made me smile bashfully to the floor but it told me what I very much needed to hear. That I still got it and that I can be sooooo much better. Someday, it'll be the whole floor screaming my name and throwing knickers and twenties at me. LOL!!!
That club closes early though so I was thinking of going home but Jacob was not done and he dragged me to a real tacky joint that was having a dancehall-ragga night. Legit authentic dub beats you do NOT get on the airwaves. There is actually a very strong movement here for that authentic Jamaican style because of the large East African community where this is popular (remember Emperor Selassie was King of Ethiopia, an East African nation). There was a blonde girl with Pippi Longstocking pigtails and a nice ass but I didn't know how to pull her. Oh well. I left cos I was beat.
The next evening my bestest friend here, Gabriella, had a housewarming. She's 10 years older than me so the party was populated by thirtysomethings. I was the baby. But it was cool, and after worrying that I didn't have much in common...after some fruit punch and a cocktail I invented (Pisang Ambon, Sprite and Rice Dream) it all flowed nicely. There was lots of Clash, Virgin Prunes and Pop Will Eat Itself on the stereo and we took goofy pictures of each other. I had bottle caps in my eyes with stars on them and a lemon slice in my mouth. I found myself attracted to this girl there. turns out she's a Greek-Finnish mix and moved here 9 years ago when she was 19. She's a Cancer, works in the Tenant Committee (protecting and advocating houseowner and tenant rights) and heavily involved in the Left Party. I liked how she looked. More handsome than beautiful and...well...predictably...she was on the small side (check my profile for preferences). But she works really strange hours (1pm afternoon to 9pm) and her weekend is Friday - Saturday cos she works Sundays. Two attempts to find out her status and get her number were very discreetly rebuffed and I really respected and admired how she turned me down. It made it easier for me to accept it and not become lame. Ahh well...you try...
We all promised each other (majority of the group at the shindig) to go disco-bowling sometime.
On later reflection I realised that it wouldn't have worked anyway and I was making the old mistake of falling in love with the movies in my head rather than the reality right in front of me. A very fatal and very common mistake for me.
To top it off, Sunday morning (just before I wrote this) I watched 'But I'm a Cheerleader' (inspired by someone's Favorite Movie list somewhere in SG) and I like it too. That really teeny, tiny softie romantic part of me, buried deep in my hugely macho masculine self was very into this film and I laughed loud and hard. Amazing soundtrack. Tryptamine introduced me to 'thatDog' years ago and I still love the 4th track and the style it's delivered in. And what do you know? Go Sailor, Dressy Bessy and TattleTale (Glass Vase Cello Case fucking rawks!!!) all fulfill a taste I've gained for female driven, indy music.
And you know what else? Katharine Towne who plays the goth chick Sinead in the film is fucking hot!!!! You must check her out in this film rawrrrrr.... (we need a :rowr: emoticon here!!!)

Dune I cant wait til children of dune comes out on sci fi channel ( maybe it did already? I dont watch much tv anymore). I loved Kyle as Mau Dib! and people say the sci fi dune tv movie was better but I loved the lynch's take on it though the sci fi version was much longer so had more of a chance to tell the story. I loved the baron Harkonen in lynch's film. I read that Seikenwicz ( sp?) a aritst/comic book artist, (havent seen much of his stuff but I loved "stray toasters" mini series) said he wanted to make the baron super huge in his movie posters he designed just imense and bloated, large as Jabba the hut but human and floating on levitators.
They so could of done the effects, but they went with just a large fat guy instead.
