Namaste,
I have had good learning times here. Some sad times. Maddening times. Sharing times. Laughing times.
My life away from SG blossoms.
I am a music review columnist for Foxy Digitalis. It's the baby of my best friends, former members of SG tryptamine and jupiter6. I am thoroughly enjoying the music - well, some of it anyway
- that I get sent to review. This is also a shameless plug for my friend's website, so indulge me and have a look.
Broadcasting ceases for Junction 11 on the 5th of July (i.e. it's the last day of school). That is the University of Reading's student radio station. I had a show on Saturdays playing leftfield chill and electronica.
But if you come and check the schedules on the website in September, I will have a new show, probably a different time and not only that:
As of 5th July, I will be Head of Music for Junction 11. I will be a liaison with record labels and PR companies. I handle all chart calculations and send them to the SBN (Student Broadcast Network) which is England's nationwide student radio authority. I get all new promos and singles sent to me and I will have to be new frontman for the Session 11 show held on Sunday nights doing the live reviews of the week's newest music.
So, if you haven't noticed, I am getting very very very involved in music. I am making new friends and it is a proven career jumpstart. Many of the previous executive members of Junction 11 now work for radio stations and entertainment PR companies.
How a degree in Artificial Intelligence will apply I do not know!
I have lots to do and I may be organising my own weekly night at one of the student bars/lounges. I have plans to bring in some Scandinavian and German electronica labels to broaden our sound. I have nothing against Ska, Punk and Rock music, but unfortunately it makes up over 90% of student radio airplay. I am one of 2 electronic/dance shows and there is just 1 hip-hop/RnB show I know of. Booooooring.
I passed all my exams. So I am through to next year.
I will not make it to the States in September. I cannot get the funds together. Temp summer jobs being what they are.
I might make it for Spring Break, but that is very tentative as that should be for studying for 2nd year finals.
I am behind on my schedule for my own website. It was due for release in July, but again, I have procrastinated or just been preoccupied.
However do try and put into your address bar www.vastad.org or www.vastad.net in about the last week of July - I will send a reminder, don't worry - as those are the domains that I own. For now you will - I believe - just get the filler promo page of the domain providers who I registered with.
I guess how I will finish off this goodbye speech is to let you know my real name.
My name is Munir,
And thank you for tuning in.
May all your dreams come true,
May you find happiness.
Warmest Regards,
Munir
