God Jul och Gott Nytt Ar to everyone!
Well Im in a better mood.
Today I am getting to see my Moms side of the family, all my aunts and cousins. Theyre Malay and Muslim so we dont celebrate Xmas, but since everyone gets a day off and my Sis and I are back in town from our respective Universities, well, family just gotta get together.
They been asking for me, and so far my hair which has since faded from a deeper red to a coppery orange has been received in a positive and flattering light. Guess its hard to shock the relatives when you look GOOD as a rebel, LOL!!!

First thing Im gonna do for myself next year is get to Forbidden Planet in London and get myself pristine copies of Promethea by Alan Moore. My awesome ladyness Gabriella says theyre the best thing hes ever written. Apparently hes gone and done a Frank Herbert thing and through the story he tells, he expounds on his views on as Douglas Adams once put it Life, The Universe and Everything. I must admit the art that seems to call back to the golden days of Image Comics throws me off. I really dont like that comic style anymore. Ill tell you who I really prefer, Mike Mignola of Hellboy. I like that.and I cant wait for the movie adaptation.

I saw Return of the King. What a load of crap. 2003 seems to be the year of the sequel that could have but didnt.
RotK possesses the ending that never seems to end. I thought it would NEVER end. It BEGS to be made fun of. It was just way too heavy on the cheese. And whats with the singing? ARRggh! And why do the hobbits look like they want to tongue each other all the time?
Shelob was a disappointment. Shes supposed to be the biggest badass bitch Demon Queen of ALL spiders. If I wanted an oversized jumping spider, I have a magnifying glass and a garden that will provide just as well.
Miranda Otto is still a babe though. Though no one seems to agree with me. And Gollum is probably the best character by the time its all over.
Oh and for those who havent seen it yet, or will see it again, pay close attention to the flyby shot of the hilltop palisade of Rohan in the beginning of the movie. Pay particular attention to which way the smoke is coming out of the chimneys in the houses around the keep. LOL! I cant believe they were that sloppy. Hundreds of millions of dollars spent on this film and they try to slip this past people.disgusting.
The other thing to pay attention to is the constant variation is scale between the troops and riders on the ground and the Oliphants. Its not consistent. One minute they are huge, then the next, they seem not much bigger than normal elephants. Without giving too much away, pay attention to Legolass showboat sequence during the final battle and think back to the initial charge by the Rohirrim against the Oliphants. Now using the lower calf of an Oliphant as a yardstick, observe how Legolas has suddenly gained a few inches on the average rider on a horse. Both.
I dont think I could sit through the Extended Edition if I have to sit through that ending again.
Why oh why did they make the dwarf comic relief?!?!? Have they learned nothing from bad adventure movie clichs?!?!?

aren't they just so adorable?

I saw the first one, but declined on the next two. It's not so much my problem with big-money movies or computer effects, but more that... I'm just not into the epic thing. I like movies about regular people. My favorite movies this year-- In America, Andy Goldworthy:Working with Time, and... well, I'm sure I'll make a list in my Journal soon.
...Oh, and Pirates of the Caribbean was a big-money movie with special effects, and I loved it.
