Finding Focus, Day 10: Derailing
My first project for the day after getting home from work was to clean up the hard drive on the bedroom computer a bit. I'm at almost 20G freed up and counting. I really need to learn better computer use habits. I still had 4G in video files from when I was making a DVD of Atlanta Rollergirls footage almost a year ago.
I haven't been able to keep up with my search for focus as well as I'd like. Though I've certainly been getting a little more organized, I'm still having a lot of trouble focusing inward. I'm too distracted by outside problem. Finances are as tight as a tourniquet. Debra missed her food stamp appointment so we may not be getting them this month, when we need them most. Debra and Rachael have been really sick the past couple of days, though Rachael at least seems to be mostly better. Debra being sick has caused her to miss work and school, the former of which we can't afford for her to miss and the latter of which she's been missing way too much of already. At least she felt well enough to go to work today, though she skipped school. I've been trying to fight off being sick. Brenda has been stressing out about the fact that she'll be losing her job soon because the store is closing and the fact that her knee has been giving her a lot of pain lately isn't helping her relax. I've not been feeling too great myself, physically. Two of the three pairs of normal people pants that I own have developed gaping holes in the crotch, including my work pants which I won't be able to replace until Friday after I get paid. My dad was in town until yesterday. I have friends who need my attention, though I have little of it to give right now. These are just the distractions at the top of my head. I could probably think of a handful more if I wanted to exert the effort. The point is that it's not been a good week for clearing out the cobwebs and goo in the brain.
It's been ten days now and I don't feel like I've accomplished much. I can't even organize my thoughts worth a damn. I've got so many things I need to do and I've only chipped away the tip of the mountain. I want to do so much more but my momentum keeps getting derailed, leaving me frustrated and depressed. Which, of course, just makes it hard to get back up and dig back in to what I want to get done.
It did help tonight to spend some time unwinding, hanging out and having a good, long talk with Gene that lead to beer drinking and Tekken 4 face-offs along with Mark and Debra. That was a really fun way to unwind before finishing off this entry and heading to bed, which I shall now do.
