Catching Up A Bit
Good
Frolicon was a lot of fun. Debra and Brenda were both mostly fantastic. The convention end of things were pretty weak but the partying and socializing weaved into the convention was quite satisfying. We did get to go to some awesome classes taught by Lolita Wolf, though. We also got some new toys in the dealers room.
While I wasn't thrilled to be there, going up for Maxx and Dawn's wedding wasn't too terrible of an experience. It was mostly just really, really boring but I enjoyed hitting the bar with Maxx and his friend Friday night after the rehearsal and I can't complain about coming home with two bottles of homemade wine which we're going to save for Brenda and I's birthday party. We're not really wine fans but I'm sure someone among our guests will appreciate it.
Jean staying here hasn't been too bad, despite how little we needed another couch surfer we barely know. He's hardly ever around and when he is he keeps pretty much to himself unless the rest of us are being social. He's very respectful and I've enjoyed getting to know him. I'm able to relate to him in a way that's rare to find. Last night I invited him out to Elmyr for some pitcher's and steak tacos on me since he was broke and he'd never been before. It was almost as good as going there with Danny, conversation-wise. Sometime I should drag both those guys out at the same time. That would be a beer binge to be feared.
Bad
It was an error in judgment to reserve two rooms at Frolicon. We thought we'd fill the second room but with only six people instead of eight we ate a $100 loss on the rooms on top of our share. I just didn't think it would have been right to ask for more money from the others since I'd said shares would be $60 each and I'm one to stick by what I say. David did insist on giving us another $20, which is why I say we ate a $100 loss instead of a $120 loss. It's not going to kill us, but it certainly hurts. Next time I think we'll just get one room and have it all to ourselves.
Rosie is moving to Raleigh this weekend. We're going to miss her a lot. I'm hoping she'll have her own place quickly so maybe we can come up and visit sometime. Unlike Asheville, interesting things occasionally go on in Raleigh.
A lot of financial stress in general lately. Not in the sense of not being able to make ends meet. That's definitely doable. It's more a matter of getting back our safety buffer. I had to rape my savings account so now I have less in it than I started it with. Unless I figure out a way to increase my income soon, I'm not going to have much of a budget for Brenda and I's party beyond the fee to rent the Spring4th Center. I can borrow money for the party, though, I just really don't want to have to.
That's all I have time for right now. More goods and a couple more bads to come soon.
